Has anyone had an issue with your car starting slow? I picked up my g83 on 7/14. Drove it back from PCD. I've put about 100 miles on it in the last week. In that time there have been 3 instances where the car seemed to turn over two or 3 times before actually starting rather than starting right away. Any idea what may be causing it? I have total of 700 miles on the car and I have not been able to determine a pattern.

Update 10/14: BMW did a software update. Made issue worse. They are now replacing the IBM integrated supply Module.

Update 10/18: BMW replacing spark plugs and fuel injectors.

Update 10/20: BMW replaced spark plugs, fuel injectors, and did an oil change. Picking her up today.

Edit: link to video of the 2 slow starts.

Have you installed anything like a radar detector, or something that's possibly not installed, correctly, draining the battery?

No install. So far stock.
I would take it to the dealer and have them run a battery load test on it. Determine of the battery is healthy. The car is under full warranty, no reason not to take it in.

OP, I have same model, in fact you replied to a post of mine a month back. My start is very quick. I would take her in as well if I was in your shoes.

Got tge car back from the Dealership today. They can't figure out why it's slow starting. As normal, it did not happen while it was with them. They SA , who I trust, said they are going to BMW engineering. But so far do not have a resolution. Currently occurred about 12 time since 7/14. Trying to record the next time it does it. BMW said battery was tested and fine.

Attached is one the slow starts I get where the car stumbles during start. Last time it did this the car stalled. The stumble has happened 3 time and I'm at about 1500 miles. The other slow start is more common, and it is higher pitched and sounds like that starter is working too hard. Still trying get a video of that. I sent the video to SA at the dealership, but any ideas?

I have never heard that on a start. I am no mechanic but the fact you say it stalls would indicate either a fuel problem or spark problem. I think a spark problem would be evident the entire time the engine is on. It’s likely some sort of fuel problem maybe a pump that’s close to failure since it’s hard to find a pattern to it. I would think this video to SA would be enough for a mechanic to start to diagnose it though.

Dealership can't find anything. Even with video. BMW engineer happened to be there though. SA said he downloaded data from car and took videos. Engineer said bmw has not had this issue with an m4 currently.

Had 2 more slow starts. See the videos. Anyone have any ideas? Am I able to go directly to BMW?

Hmmm, I have to admit it sounds pretty normal.

Sometimes engines start slightly faster than other times due to ambient temp, temp of the engine, how long ago was the last start, etc...

The longest time from crank to start I saw was about 2 seconds, which sounds pretty reasonable.

Maybe. The odd part is that it only happens when the car has been at operating temps and has been sitting for 1-6 hours. Drove it bunch over Labor Day and it was pretty consistent. BMW did make the comment that the slow start wasn't normal. The slow start has happened 20 times over 2900 miles.

I have an appointment October 4th with dealer. I just want a confident answer one way or the other with a logical explanation.

I actually noticed the same thing you're describing on my G80 that I picked up yesterday. I'll keep an eye on things, but it's a little disconcerting, as the car hiccups on some starts.

I'll let you know if the dealer finds anything.

I'm guessing, but I think as heats dissipates It messes with fuel in one of the lines. May vaporizing a small amount in the line.

What is the ambient temp? Def don't think that is normal...Praying for a quick and easy resolution! I am sure that BMW will find something and may be simple and all will be resolved.

I though that may have had something to do with but after Friday I don't think so. Over Labor Day car was cooling in the sun and ambient tripartite was in the 90s. However Friday was 70 and raining and still did a slow start after about 4 hours sitting.

My dealership isn't quite sure what issue is. They think it may be the fuel pump. Though they have not been able to replicate in shop. They submitted the videos to BMW engineering and are waiting to hear back before replacing the fuel pump.

Update:

So my dealership opened up a "Sara" case with BMW and the dealership and BMW have been troubleshooting since the Oct 4th.

BMW did a software update. This made slow start problem much more consistent. As result, BMW, is replacing "IBM integrated supply module". Part was actually at a dealer in PA. So should be replace on Monday or Tuesday.

Interesting, I've been experiencing the issue less in the past few days, being more of a slight „hiccup" when starting, rather than a slow start. Looking forward to your update OP!

Might have to take mine in too.
