Doubtful

I am guessing those will be closer to 4500, batteries are heavy as %#*%

AWD adds about 150 lbs, so it should still be under 4,000 which is amazing Considering the size and power it offers plus all the tech.

People need to realize ALL cars get bigger heavier, safety standards and tech are to thank for that. This isn't just BMW.

If you want smaller buy a M2, simple. Don't expect 500hp and 180" car at 3400 lbs unless you want to spend $175,000 on a Porsche.

Just saying for the haters out there, show me a lighter 4 door with this performance at under $100,000

If it wasn’t just a funny, look at me I ignored everything here and let’s start over you got a point.
There’s no longer a sharp border between the M cars. The M2 is an M2 and an M3, the M3 is an M3 and an M5, the M5 is an M5 and an M7. All cars has much larger range of utility and capabilities. For those who want the more single model scope there’s the CS cars.

But we're hating amongst ourselves?
I also truly believe BMW have a light weight option on the horizon with light body parts and features for those who want a real stripper version with an S58! Yeah it won't be cheap, but what is nowadays?
Yup, at the end of the day we're arguing over G8X Alpha Build vs F8X 2.0 - they're from the same stock regardless of exterior design choices. I think part of the polarization though is that all the positives can be negatives and negatives can be positives depending on what you want an M3/4 to be - hence why the conversation hasn't died down. Judging by how some think things like "E46 was the last 'real' M3", I don't think it'll ever fully die down. I'll always have my opinions on the car (but really more so BMW in this era, G8X isn't the root), but I'm just accepting it for what it is. We can still help each other out and have rational discourse.

Exactly. And not lighter than a RWD M340i either.

As long as the question remain if the G8X is generally a better track day car or not the bickering will for sure go on. If it’s not it will never end which is good for traffic on this site

If it slaughter the F8X on the track though...well things should quite down a fair bit.

The scales are not on levelers, the weight distribution shown is somewhat meaningless without that. The scales need to be all at the same height in order to have accurate measurements.

“ The BMW M3 has moved the game on a bigger step than at any time since E36 became E46”

Big words when the E36 has been generally been regarded at the bottom and the E46 on the top M3 ranking. Man, is it really this good as reviews make it out to be? Hard to believe but very exciting.

3,700 ish with CF bucket seats and a 6MT (the way Manly Men order a car). Not great, not terrible. MUCH better than a lot of us expected when we put our orders in.

People keep blaming the car manufacturers for the weight gain but often overlook the fact that most Americans are obese and need more space compared to comfortably fit in these vehicles compared to even 10-15 years ago.

Yes some is due to safety regulations etc becoming more advanced but still

nice article, for both actually !

Just one thing bothers me from BMW:
Presscars all have the Michelin Tyres on, and as I see most costumer here on the board get the Pirelli's.
God I can't stand Pirelli....

You and me both
I won the lottery with my F80 but have also lost it with Contis in the past, man they were hateful tires and Pirellis is one step down from there IMO.

Yes I certainly don't have the time that you apparently do to study all the comments; but I'm glad I amused you.

But I disagree with your comment on the CS cars. Even those are not focused enough to compete with focused sports cars. Either you make an M car track focused (which I have for my M3 and M4) or buy a Porsche.

Not really.

Still no U.K. manual so it's never happening for me.

They did that with X3M as well. Press cars all Michelin but the vast majority sold with Continentals attached. Booooo! Many of us dumped those for upsized PS4S.

I love how the whole thread is trying to justify to themselves that 3900lbs on a M3 is "amazing", we all know that's terrible, its not "not that bad", its just bad. Im just gonna be honest with myself that I'm already disappointed the g8x is heavier than the predecessor. I love the looks of the car but the weight is just hard to swallow on a car with a mighty M3 badge.

Ok so you thought a new tech car which has grown in size and has to fulfill more security standards than the predecessor will be lighter for a reasonable price?

Sorry for the question:
In what fantasy world do you live ?
