Carbotech 1521 pad compound. Brake performance is equal to, or better than, the stock brake performance. Initial bite is ~90% stock initial bite. Zero noise and extremely low brake dust. Here’s a pic of my f82 wheel with about 200 miles of driving since it was last cleaned:

I've ran dfc 3000 on front and Centric ceramic pads for rear for 17k miles and zero issues. I'm actually going with DFC 5000 advanced pads I ordered from Bimmerworld. I'm no track rat so I'm good and minimal dust. I did install Carbotech pads on the front and my car sounds like a clunker.

The F8x doesn’t have that problem. I’m currently running these pads on five cars without a single issue. I guess they’re cutting the backing plate too small relative to the pad guides or the backing plate sent in by someone was off for some reason. Has this been addressed with them? They're usually great at addressing issues like this. I would not run them either if the pads are rattling in the pad guides. They seem to work fine in the G87. Odd.

I used EBC yellow, they have minimal squeal noise
EBC reds reduce noise greatly too

I’ve also had good luck with street pads from Porterfield R4S (S is important because the R4 is a track pad!) and Cobalt XR5 on other M, non-M and non-BMW cars. They’re more expensive than oem pads but they perform well, have no noise and produce little brake dust. |

isweep 1500s on mine the day I picked it up. Even better than the no squeeking is how clean the wheels stay. I knew from my buddies g80 that the stock pads are the devil for keeping wheels clean. I don’t like red wheels.

So what’s the general consensus, do all the OEM pads squeal or do driving habits affect it?
Reason I am asking is, my car (with 200 miles on it, which was a trip from the dealer home ) is going in to get new springs installed, I have EBC Reds in hand. Should I get them to install the EBC reds at the same time or give the OEM pads a chance? The dust from the OEM pads will bug me too. |
