Top speed without the M Drivers Package?

What is the top speed for the of US models without this package?

155 MPH is what it is governed at. If you get the speed governor removed through the factory option or aftermarket tune then the top speed is 180 MPH.

Yes, and you get the 180mph/280kph top speed regardless of brake type.

This is correct. I paid for that package and it was an extra $2500. I have not had the opportunity to go that fast yet. The package also comes with a one day pass for the BMW track in South Carolina.

I'm no lawyer but maybe they do this for liability reason. They trained you to drive 180 MPH and then they unleash it? Anyway, you can easily kill yourself at 155 MPH! LOL

I think they do it for money reasons as an option. It was a 'No cost extra' for the M2 CS.

Liability and it also allows easy deletion of the sunroof. If you have a sunroof you cannot order the option.

All modern CS cars come with the M Driver’s Package and the 180mph limiter (my old F80 CS included it, too). We will likely get it for “free” again with the G8x CS.

My 2020 M340i will hit 162mph but it says it is limited to 155mph.

BMW speedos have a tolerance for error of 10%+2.5mph over actual speed. Essentially, your speedo could show as high as 173mph before hitting the actual limiter. It's been widely documented for several years now.

This tolerance is only for when the indicated speed is OVER the actual speed. There is no allowable tolerance for the speedo to show that you are going slower than actual.

Back in the day... BMW, Audi and Merc all had a gentlemans agreement to limit their car's top speed to 155mph in an attempt to curb the 'top speed wars' between the manufacturers.

As for the M Driver's Package, I don't think it has anything to do with liability. It is more for ///Marketing. People will spend the money for a higher top speed (that they will never reach) just for bragging rights.

As for attending the Performance Driving School, there is no training provided for top speed. When I did the Advanced M Program out at Thermal we didn't even get close to 155mph.

Similarly, it is included in the Canadian "Ultimate" package for the G8*.

I went to the dealership and they said they could not add it. Although if you can post where you seen it that would help. 😎

M Drivers package isn't an option for cars with a sunroof. The technical manual says it's not engineered to handle the load. Anyone know if the F8x had this same limitation?

Is it the Maserati that's going 185, or the tow truck taking it in for service?
