How often is everyone changing their oil? Especially considering our climate...

It's been around 4k miles since my last oil change. I'm a firm believer of every 3-5k miles but the dealer is saying to follow the recommendation per the car, which is every 10k miles.

Thoughts?

I've always followed the condition based intervals in my vehicles and the M3 won't be any different.

So 10k for you? Interesting...okay. It just seems crazy because that's so many miles

10k miles or 1 year, yeah.

The synthetic oils hold up a lot better than years ago.

So, coming from owning a lot of older BMWs, I'll be doing half intervals, every 5k or so. Yes, the synthetics last longer, but they pick up 'stuff' that can cause issues with performance down the road. As you all know, the oil and oil pressure is used to drive all sorts of decisions in these vehicles (variable valve timing is one), and debris in the oil can cause issues for these items down the road. I have two N52 engines, one with 200k and one with 88k, and I believe that doing half intervals has really saved me from a lot of the problems I see in the forum. Remember, BMW is paying for these oil changes, and really only cares if the car makes it past the factory warranty period. So, they have motivation to stretch that interval as long as possible.

All that being said, if you are on lease, then, no point in doing more than factory. I don't know when I'll sell this, and it's likely it'll be either auction or private party, so an extra hundred bucks or so every 10,000 miles will likely pay dividends in a terms of a beefier maintenance file. I'll also be doing brake fluid and coolant every two years, regardless of what my car tells me, and transmission every 50k. If I had an x-drive, I'd do the front diff and TC as well at reasonable intervals.

My 1 year comes up next month and I "might" crack 5k. I finally have some parts on the way and just going to have it done with the install of it all. But I agree with doing the recommendations of BMW. This being my 4th BMW and I've had no issues just following that. If I was tracking it or driving like I was a junior in HS, probs more frequent.

I think a lot of you guys did Select (I did) I checked my payoff and I have positive equity of probably around $10K. I confirmed the balloon was included in the payoff also.

Just sharing in case anyone was wondering if they made the right decision...

I did select but highly doubt I'm positive equity at this point. My final spec was $95k…and I've also put in over $10k of mods (not that I'd ever expect to get a positive return on mods).

I only inquired because I was curious. I think a lot of us were wondering if we would have to stroke a check for $5K or $10K or whatever at the end of the term (or whenever we sold)

Not counting your mods, I bet you're at least even so Select was for sure the way to go.

And things may change in a a couple of years but I doubt they will substantially so Select is truly a no brainer IMO

What is "Select"?

Select is the financing option which includes a balloon payment upon end of term (60 months) The amortization schedule is pre-built. Select financing allows you to secure a lower monthly payment vs. traditional financing.

For example, my car has a balloon payment of approx. $27K upon end of term. So if the car is worth less than $27K - I am responsible for the difference. The APR is identical to traditional financing.

My balloon is $36,136.10. I don't think I'll have much of an issue getting that in 4.5 years. Even in normal circumstances, I think that would be an easy number to achieve as the M3s have typically held their value fairly well after the first initial drop off, especially if you have normal miles for the years owned.

Only time will tell though…

i've never done a balloon financing option, but interested. Does this then mean your monthly is significantly lower and at the end of the term you either pay the balloon amount to keep the car or trade-in/sell privately if you can get over the balloon amount?

Almost sounds like a no-brainer if this is the case.

There were multiple posters pre-covid who came out ahead with Select. It's BMW's 'dirty little secret' IMO

Definitely but only works on a few of their vehicles, luckily the M3 being one of them. A lot of the others though, it would never make sense.

I went traditional finance .9% at 60m. I also got a killer trade on my f80 for about what I bought it for. And with AZ only paying sales tax on the remainder of the vehicle, I ended up about under 1k in tax. Payment is nearly the same, no money out of pocket, and delivered for free from Tucson. I also got free all weather floor mats and a sunshade if that matters

Anyone in the Ahwatukee area in here and own an AW M3C? Saw one driving in the parking lot today as I was walking out of the FedEx Kinkos store.

Figured it'd be fun to start organizing the next meet with everyone. This one is coming up on May 7th at High Street in Scottsdale. Is anyone interested in showing their car? We can email the organizer and ask for a few spots together if we have enough interest.

Here's a recap of the April 2nd show:

I'd be down to go but I don't think our cars are exotic enough for that meet? Please correct me if I'm wrong...I thought it was all high end exotics?

I saw some new generation Shelby Mustangs and a few GTR's in the video, I figured we would make the cut. If I'm wrong, we could still have a cool parking lot meet and get to see some cool cars! Maybe they are looking for more participants if the snowbirds have already left.

Cool - mark me down! I'll have my bumper fixed before then

Let me know if you want to meet anywhere prior and we can all cruise on over...
