In a different market, I may have not accepted the repair, but that wasn't an option for me in the current climate. I'll update the MBS threads as things progress.

So far so good. I've only put on about 40 miles since I picked it up, but seems to be running smooth.

Insane situation and I thought there was no shot in this market that I'd have my car back in 30 days once I heard I needed a new motor and it had to come from Germany. Surprised is an understatement.
Id honestly rather have the whole motor replaced than part of it in piecemeal (If I had to have it done).

On my 2017 RS7 I actually blew the engine at 2500 miles and Audi NA offered me a full replacement and 10k but I knew that the value of the car was diminished. Any Audi dealer could review the R/O and see it was a replaced engine and I would get fucked on trade so I actually negotiated a full cash buy back.

Im not sure what happened with KnightedBMW and hope the carfax and other reports do not show such a process was done.
My car had 97k on it and I sold it with 145k on odometer. It took about 30 days for me too and my ticket was at 27k. Of course I didn't pay that and as far as diminished value, it didn't matter at that point. I'm anal about my cars so it sold in less than 24 hours.

Love the color combination! How are you enjoying Skyscraper over Silverstone? I ordered a similar spec (Oxide over Silverstone) and I'm pretty sure it'll look good together but won't know til I see it in person.
Thanks! I couldn't be more happy with the color combo! Silverstone has a perfect shade and brightens the interior up a bit. I went with the cf roof and tinting the car. I figured it might be a little dark inside but the SS gives it a nice contrast.

Oxide over SS is going to look great!

Good now

Since you've owned R8's do you think a stock G80 AWD can take on a 2018 R8 V10 (non-performance/non-plus) in a real world stoplight race or roll race (say 30-120mph)?

Non Performance, for sure---- in the real world, you have to rev that R8 up past 5k rpms to get the hp curve and tq curve to come alive.

The Non Performance is 540 bhp awd so AWHP/tq is rather low. From a dig it would be close but I like the G80 and then from a roll it depends on what gear the R8 is in... this is of course talking about a non Performance Non Plus car.

Makes sense -- my brother in law took me for a ride in his new-to-him R8 and it didn't "feel" as fast as I thought it would. But then it's high-revving and lacks the torque feeling from the turbo cars we're getting used to... I also think it'll be a close race and if the R8 wasn't high up in the rev range it'll have to play catch-up.

Half the fun of driving the R8 is running the rpms up to hear that symphony V10...

After a 20 minute struggle, I finally unearthed the new Fall-Line strut brace from IND.

Right from the start I can tell that this is a premium product and a lot of thought was put into manufacturing these. Of course the paint job from IND is top notch as always. My photo below is a terrible representation of the product and paint job though.

Hopefully will get it installed tonight or this weekend and get some proper photos out in the sunlight.

Snow pictures for all! Hahah

Up in Asheville NC for the week after PPF install and it started snowing, naturally I had to take a photo of the car, coming from Florida this might be the only time ever that this car sees snow!

PS chicagofan00 can't wait to see those fall line braces installed!

Looking good! 😈

You don't have to wait at all, posted just a little bit ago with some cell phone shots. Should hopefully get better ones this weekend.

Day 3 of ownership... 2nd midnight canyon run. Slowly getting through that break-in!

For the curious, STI is built, E85, Big Turbo, Race Cams etc track focused 400+ to the wheels. GTI is caged, big turbo, etc.

Things I learned tonight: I do not like SPORT braking mode. It grabs nicely, but it's too late. There is a moment of light braking then OOOMMF there's the big brake. It makes it difficult to modulate the brakes. Here's the thing, I'm used to aggressive grabby race pads that were on my former F80 M3 CS which came on strong and hard almost immediately when you touch the pedal. It's not that I can't handle aggressive brakes, its that the SPORT braking mode doesn't give progressive feedback. Maybe I have to get used to it, but I prefer the natural feeling of the COMFORT braking. Keep in mind I am NOT threshold braking yet (maximum brakes without engaging ABS). Maybe on the track, SPORT brake mode will allow for that more consistently? I'll find out after brake in and I start taking it to the track.

The BMW CCA Corral at the Rolex 24 in Daytona. Drove the G80 from NJ. Super comfortable ride, and the Vredestein all seasons were fantastic on the road.
