I knew this would be NY or NJ before I opened the thread.
Pretty sad. I agree OP, I wouldn't want the car back either.

Steal it late at night and you have a few hours of freedom before the owner knows.... Disconnect the battery then cut all communication modules during. Not really complicated and would apply to anything. Now they could hardened the system and make xyb more inaccessible with a back up battery or have the system auto brick however it could come with cons. Someone can just steal a car with a tow truck if really wanted. Why having it behind a barricade such as a car or garage is key. It happens, sorry to the OP. Luckily insurance will right the wrong |

Progressive spent two months refusing to authorize repairs while trying to prove that I stole my own car. It only ended when the Detective in charge of the case called them and yelled at them (the Detective was so nice). I loved that car. It was my first nice, quick car. and I'd driven it all over the US. I never got that feeling back. I traded it in for an RSX-S the next year shortly after they first arrived on the market. Best wishes, OP. I hope you find your next car as soon as possible. |

Thanks to threads like this, I keep uping my previous efforts to stop/slow a thief.
Found out you can remove the speaker on an airtag so it doesnt beep for a would be thief looking to find it and dump it. Quick YouTube video will show ya. They also sell magnetic cases for a stealthy placement of your tag somewhere in the car against any type of metal. Wont even look like an airtag and wont beep and shouldn't move/rattle. I plan to install two of these. Should buy you some time to find your car in the event something were to happen. |

Question on airtags: so they can allow for tracking anywhere regardless of your proximity to the car?
Are there any alternatives like air tags for those who aren't Apple users?

You mean you don't have a search engine? Yes, there are lots. Search on GPS Trackers.

Do you have to keep the round remote part in the car all the time. The glove box isn't the most secure location. It will be interesting to see if after a couple months you get tired of pulling your phone out to activate and deactivate the anti-theft every time you leave and enter the car. That seems to be the thing you need to get in the habit of doing every time because as luck has it, it's when you don't activate it that someone will steal the car.

All these fancy theft deterrents and security alarms and I think one of those old school metal steering wheel locks that older gen would put in their cars likely do a better job than all this modern technology.

Seems like what is adding to the problem is the proximity lock/unlock feature. If the range of the key-fob signal was reduced similar to the "tap to pay" signal the thief/vehicle would have to be right next to the key-fob.
Physical key or key-fob, as long as there needs to be a way for the owner of the car to get a new key made locally, you will never get rid of the problem of someone getting a key or key-fob made. I like the idea of the Dahler throttle control system but a dedicated anti-theft device with an additional fob on the owners's key ring would double the requirements to get the car to move. Again, the signal range of the fob needs to be limited and the fob needs to be unique and keyed to the control unit. I suspect the current Dahler remote is generic and not keyed to the individual control. I don't believe Dahler's current throttle control system is really ideal for an anti-theft device. Sorry to hear about your car OP.
What I did was take a small metal pot with lid and throw all our keys in there. I carried the pot out by the cars with the keys in it and the doors didn’t unlock. (We have an X7 and M4) Sometimes my wife forgets to put her key in there but I always put mine in there. We have a garage as well and lock the garage doors as well so you can’t use the garage door keypad outside.

Most thefts are from amplifying the signal while you sleep, which the auto shut off curbs. In this case it seems like they actually had a legit key from the dealer as has happened a few times, nothing you can personally do w your keys to stop that. |

With the G8x the key your amplifying needs to be moving, or you have to have a dupe key created. In the other longer thread that was linked, the dealership created another key for the perp. It was also in the same tri-state area. |
