Will keep my m340i and get a 911. Once the BMW lease is up, I'll cross the bridge.

Decided to wait for G87. I currently have an F80 and an F87 and the new G87 should slot, size wise, between the two. Therefore, I anticipate replacing F80 with G87. The G80 is simply too big and heavy for me. Don't care that it has more power, I simply prefer a smaller, nimbler, car. In fact, if I wanted more power, and didn't care about size/weight, I would get an M5....which also happens to be a great looking car.

IF the style grows on me, I may consider an order somewhere down the line when the pricing becomes more rational. Same thing happens when any new performance car comes out (C8 Corvette for one); the initial buyers pay MSRP or higher, then the newness wears off (from what is most times a big "want", rather than "need"), and then the lease rates become better, more discounts off MSRP, etc.

I'm the opposite and will highly consider one when M340i lease is up. I was completely against the G8x looks but seeing more photos and videos and hearing people say in person it looks good, I could live with the appearances. I'm mostly interested in the AWD, driving dynamics, and since owning S58 in X3M I want this great motor in a lower and lighter package. My M340i is phenomenal but M cars are another level all around. If you can tolerate the looks and size, the G8x is going to be really fantastic.

Not surprising, they are not cheap, the looks are not subtle and we have zero driving impressions. Unless you are coming off lease or need to get in a car right away there is nothing wrong with waiting. There will be plenty of allocations......

I'm moving forward with my M3 purchase. It's been my dream car since a child, and now I have the opportunity to get in on a new model version. Sort of a dream come true.

Awesome!! I'm happy to hear this kind of sentiment when buying an m3. Thats what you need to have because this will always be a purchase from the heart, not the brain...

Actually that's why I gave up my allocation - so someone like you could have first dibs!

I'm right there with you. I'd only see the M3 in magazines at the grocery store growing up and always wanted one. Nobody had anything like a BMW, let alone an M3.

I'm not 100% doing an order yet (waiting for reviews, etc). To me this really feels like the last chance to get something like this. RWD, 6MT, actual buttons instead of everything being screens, things like that.

The M3 is also a good middle ground. I wouldn't feel bad throwing snows on it and making it a 3.5 season car. Something like a Porsche doesn't make much sense here.

So we'll see.

But, at least for me, ultimately weighing an almost 90k proposition of "what ifs" of driving appeal/weight against the expectations and the assumptions that people should have with this car based on the marketing and branding was too big of a pill to swallow for me.
BMW's marketing in general is odd for sure, with the G80/G82 it seems they're targeting younger demographics that can't afford these cars, not to mention that whole "ok boomer" thing with the iX...

Really can't wait for the professional driving reviews to come out though. I'm sure everyone's opinions will change once more if the G80/G82 continues to be another great drivers car in spite of the worrying specs.

I keep trying to figure out why the argument against BMW’s marketing always mentions who can and can’t afford this car. I don’t think those of you who consistently make that argument are aware of how much these kids make off of YouTube and Tik Tok. I’m sure many of them are in better financial situations than we were at that age, especially considering they’re not paying back student loans.

...and a vast number of them are buried in student debt and/or working at Walmart. The occasional young human making a lot of social media money doesn't change the economic realities of the current gen of young adults. In the US, at least.

I can't tell if this is a serious comment or not....

Cause marketing to a younger demographic because a tiny % of them can actually afford it vs. to the traditional demographic where a larger % can afford it.... makes perfect sense....

I turned my F80 ZCP lease in and didn't go for the G80. Just can't at the moment, not in love with it like the E9x and F8x.

Got extended warranty on my F80, holding out for the AWD G80 -- if that doesn't feel compelling at the time then M5

I was set on ordering a G80 with a manual but then I got a hold of a 2020 M2 CS instead. To me it boiled down to my daily being a 2020 M340, so getting a G80 as well would be too redundant. The M2 CS is perfect for me, looks better (IMO) and has a manual. It is the best choice for a weekend car.

Take all of this with a grain of salt as I am still waiting on my M2 to arrive. If I didn't have the M340i or was getting rid of it I probably would have still went with the G80. The G20 is a great daily and still looks good. I am sure the G80 will be a blast, especially with the manual trans and also has some great tech! I would easily overlook the non-ideal aesthetics.

If I didn't care much about a nimble & tossable car then I'd get into a G8X. Yes the front end sucks but overall the car still looks mean as hell.

Regardless, the M2 is my cup of tea. It doesn't take itself too seriously, it's just a lively and engaging little car.

Just got into a 2020 Mustang GT PP 6MT, so I am into this car for at least 3 years. Planned it this way so the car will be out for sometime, leases get better and there will be maybe an LCI out by then.

A tiny percent? Go on YouTube, IG and Tik Tok and you tell me that’s a tiny percent. At the end of the day BMW decided to market to them why are you so hurt by that. Lastly by yelling about the traditional demographic (yeah the same ones that’s been dogging the restyling) means anything. It’s laughable that you guys always want to be wanted and wooed. Buy the car or don’t it’s that simple. Who cares if a company wants to increase its market share by a tiny percent and in the process introduce its product to a younger demographic.

Ok... so your idea of a significant representation of individuals is based off anecdotal evidence from browsing Youtube, IG, and Tik Tok.... Great.

People would be "dogging the restyling" regardless of what was to come out, happens every generation. Oh and by the way, it's not only the traditional demographic that's been dogging the style.... you should know.... you seem to do all your research on Youtube.

It's the marketing that's really taken a turn for the worse, and there's no harm in discussing how ridiculous it's been. There's various ways a brand can go about trying to increase its market share. BMW seems to have taken the "even bad press is good press" route, which to me, is unfitting of a luxury brand and cheapens the experience.

Ultimately people will buy or won't buy... but this is a forum for discussion.

I feel u guys, if i didnt need the seats for my kids this would really be a dilemma between M3 and used 911... i think exclusivity would be a factor, as in my region there will always be a lot of Porsche and few M3/4's ...
