Ventilated seats - yes or no?

Being such an inexpensive option - should be a no brainer. But - there is always a drawback:

- do ventilated seats feel as comfortable?
- are bolsters fully adjustable (vs regularx3 seats)
- Are there more perforations to trap dirt
- Are the fans loud?
- Assuming it is like in x5 the air is pulled not blown from them - how efficient are they?
- Not available with carbon seats obviously

From people who ordered them - do you like them? Pictures?

I have them in my X3MC and although they're not the best, are a no brainer as a $350 option. The fan is noticeable at speed 3, but with music on you'd need to listen for it. No idea if it pulls vs pushes air though.

I did option my G82 with seat ventilation and I am quite happy with the small investment.

I was back and forth about these and did a little digging for info. I was able to confirm that these have all the adjustments of the standard leather seats, unlike the ventilated on the X3M which lose some functions. Ambient air is pulled into the seats, so not really "cooled" per se.

The one thing that did stop me from ordering was the comfort - in one of the early threads when the car first came out, the dealer showed a cross section of a ventilated seat and it did contain less cushioning and had a hard plastic mesh under the bottom to avoid crushing the fans inside.

I have this in my 2021 M550i. It's ventilated not cooled, so it doesn't feel very strong. The fans are little noisy in highest setting. But, I would still get it especially if you live in some place hot like Florida. They do make a difference. Whichever car, I have bought, I option - all the highest comfort options the car offers for the seats - high end leather, heated, ventilated, massage, every way adjustable, multi contour seats. They are worth it.

I also have it and is definitively worth it and the seats are very comfortable, so the anti comfort comment is not valid.

I feel like ventilated seats are one of those options where you only need to experience it once to make it an easy choice from then on.

I used to think that they were a "nice but not necessary" kind of option until I visited a friend in Arizona. Getting off of a hiking trail and into a car with ventilated seats was a real come to Jesus moment for me.

- Are the fans loud?

YES!....

The first time they went on full blast I literally did a 180 as the sound scared the crap out of me. Ive never had a car that was this loud on the seats.

Transit!

Same reason I didn't get them in my G80 order. Heard from a few that the seat wasn't as comfortable. Also noise of the motor for the ventilation is noticeable at times. So just decided to skip it

Can anyone verify for sure this is true? There seems to be conflicting opinions...

Don't believe it. I have this option and the seats are extremely comfortable, more so than my previous 2010 E60 528xi.

I have them in my G80 and they feel great when it's warm outside. The seats are still very comfortable. You can hear the fans just a bit with the radio off but they aren't annoying. Sounds kind of like white noise in the background.

Can you run ventilation and seat warmer at the same time? It may seem counter-intuitive but this is a favorite feature of my wife's Macan. Nice and toasty without the sweat.

I had the ventilated seats in my F06 I believe. Kind of useless. Also, given the choice, I'd rather not have perforated leather.

I had an Infiniti loaner once with cooled seats. Although they worked well in the sense that they extract heat, they blew the cool air out, which could prove to be uncomfortable for some of us of the male sex.

A friend of mine refers to them as ball chillers.

If they are leather, I see ventilated seats as a requirement in Texas.

I have M4 G82. Standard seats with ventilated option. I have 3k miles seats are comfortable. On 3 power you can hear with no music on. Once music is on you do not hear them. The side bolsters do work. As far as the power or how much they put out was average. I have been in other cars half the price that I thought were better. I live in Florida so it was nice to have but not a have too. Cheap price for option. I also think the seats look better with the perforations in them.
