A GT2 RS was at my last track day. He was doing a lead follow, the lead being a spec Miata! I passed him twice, but he wins the game of "who's got the nicer toys". Parked next to me in the pits too. Good on him for using it as intended.

Well driven, they are hellishly fast though...

If you track it hard and drag race often, it will break sooner or need to be built up a bit. I understand people feel good about the tranny now and maybe they should be. I need to see an AWD M car with 800-850 ft lbs launching and beat on before I can say it's going to be fine. If you are only doing some 60-130 pulls once in a blue, you may be just fine. Time will tell
I believe it! I raced quite a few GTR's back in the day with my 335, the GTR's are quick when the owner has money but if hes just another guy affording that monthly payment you can bet its on stock twins. The twins max around 600, clutches start to slip past 600tq, engine throws rods past 600... That barrier is literally in the 10's of thousands as compared to a couple grand getting it to 600. Like you said, you can probably hit 650 on stock everything but what's the point, you're flirting with a big repair bill or going all out and that means you probably have mega bucks to spend and already on your way to an 800+awhp monster.

The stock twins cant hold more than 13psi to redline, unless its a nismo model. Swapping to nismo or similar turbos allow you to hold 20+ psi to redline 7500rpm, all the while respecting the 600-625 torque limit. On E85, thats 800whp, 700whp on 91. Tsm offers a warranty on this stock engine turbo upgrade, as well as another big player. I know they are pretty reliable at that level... and trap 140-150mph depending how hard u push...

My buddy has that exact type set up. I think he has SIR turbos, not TSM. It's pretty quick though, and spools quickly

Coming from a number of BMW's over past 2 decades (1M, E46M3, F80), I now find myself questioning why I would choose a ///M over a AMG or RS? Given the G80 weight, I'd certainly probably opt for the better quality AMG if I wanted a fast saloon, but likely now forced away from the fat, but fast saloon format onto more 911/Cayman.

For now sticking with my F80 seems the most fun/logical option.
Def can't go wrong with a 911!! I'm not one who really cares about the weight like many others. I will never track my cars. I want the look, stance and power=). Some of my buddies make fun of me when I run the 22" wheels on my GTR. Of course it's not as fast, but it looks way better. Everyone needs to buy the car that best suits them. I'm sure the new G series will be a fantastic car. Maybe I will be interested in the AWD ones in a few years when hopefully the ECU's are cracked and the aftermarket is much bigger. I look forward to seeing a 1000 WHP all wheel drive G series lurking the streets soon

For me, this is such a let down if those numbers are true. Like I posted before, those are numbers of my stock 2010 GTR. 11 years later and thats what this new M car is going to be? WTF. Maybe I expect to much, I don't know

Seems a little slow compared to the X3/4M Comp. Was this a european test with particulate filter?

https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a2...sting-0-to-60/

Quote:
In our testing, the X4 M and X3 M, both equipped with M’s Competition package, rocketed their way to 60 mph in 3.3 seconds. That time makes the pair a tenth of a second quicker than the last performance-package-equipped Porsche Macan Turbo we tested, although that wasn't the refreshed 2020 model, which gets more power. The competing BMWs were a tenth of a second shy of the times posted by the quickest Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio and the Mercedes-AMG GLC63 S coupe. They did, however, outdo the Stelvio Quadrifoglio in the quarter-mile, reaching the distance in 11.6 seconds at 119 mph—a tenth of a second quicker and 2 mph faster than the Italian SUV.

Little better according to them. Still weak on the 1/4 mile. I'm sure it will be a good driving, semi quick car in stock form

Re 'Stance" ... the G8x looks as if it needs 25mm spacers or after mkt wheels to fix that. No idea why BMW don't fix this and get outside of wheel flush like MB do.
...Just like the E46, E9X and F8X.

Call me impressed. I did expect it to be fast, but those numbers are beyond what I expected.
