Exclamation G80 M3 / G82 M4 Stillborn in the EU?

Not only is the design stirring emotions maybe the price should as well.

Ran a config out of interest. A BMW M3 Competition, Davit Grey with a few options comes out as, for me, 117,500 EUR / 137,050 USD base price.

The government here in France have just released the new Emissions / Anti-Pollution Tax supplement for 2021 and 2022 (Malus Ecologique).

At 231g/km CO2 the M3 will cost me an extra 40,000 EUR / 46,600 USD on top of the purchase price to register it for the road and receive a license plate. This makes my purchase an eye watering 157,500 EUR / 183,695 USD.

Is it really worth it ? Ecology has taken hold in the European Union and this type of vehicle has seen it's day.

What's your opinion ?

Rest Of The World > Enjoy it while you can.

2022 sees the tax go up to 50,000 EUR.

This car has no chance even if it was a looker.

The next M3 will surely be Electric / Hybrid.

Hold onto your F80 as long as possible and then move out of France.

???? I'm french but moved out a long time ago. Did not realize things have gotten so bad. I remember 15 years ago you would consider someone with a basic 330i (un bourges..). I see they have not changed their ways and everyone is still gossiping about the neighbor with the "big Audi"...A4 1.9TDI lmao They love keeping the middle class down and equal. What a bunch of clowns. Visiting is still cool though, since they own everyone in the food department.

Your problem is more your location than anything else. We can all have different opinions on the grilles but not on that fact.

Damn, that definitely is painful.
I can't help but think there may be more hurdles coming for us in the near future though. I'm not sure what the latest is on this but I assume GPS speed limiters are still on their way for us too. At which point, I wonder if there will be any point in having a car like this...? Feels like governments are doing all they can to 'punish' the motorist...but especially the ones with combustion engines.

Crazy...
Glad I live in Switzerland even if price increased ~20% (F80 Comp vs G80 Comp).

This blows my mind. You would think Italy... home of Ferrari, Lamborghini, Pagani, Alfa.... would not impose such heavy costs on car ownership.

EU loves to drop stones on their car manufacturers with these ever tightening emission regulations.

Japan doesn't have these regulations. I will just go back to JDM when German stops producing exciting sports cars because of these absurd EU regulations.

Want to know why your M3 is porky - you can thank the EU for that also

Quote:
From 2021, the EU fleet-wide average emission target for new cars will be 95 g CO2/km.
Quote:
The binding emission targets for manufacturers are set according to the average mass of their vehicles, using a limit value curve.
Quote:
Manufacturers of heavier cars are allowed higher emissions than manufacturers of lighter cars. The curve is set in such a way that the targets for the EU fleet-wide average emissions are achieved.

That limiter means people can never change lane unless the car on the other lane drops speed which is unlikely in this day and age

Bought the last one tax free in the UK and then registered it here and saved 30,000 EUR. (Yes you can buy a LHD car in the UK and export it). Back in 2016 the registration tax was a mere 7,000 EUR. Even with that I was still a winner.

Looks like now it's game over.

Anyway look on the bright side I wouldn't waste 157,000 EUR on this anyway

Have a few more fires in California (and I am terribly shocked by what happened) and your politicians won't be far behind. It's gonna happen.

That's really quite horrific if true. We will all be contained in one lane driving at the same speed and equal distance between cars. Autonomous cars people

Not exactly. Just means you won't be able to do anymore than the posted speed limit, here 80km/h on a normal road or 130km/h on the freeway. What's the point of an M3 in that case ?
Most cars already have a cruise control and speed limiter you can set manually. This just makes it automatic

I'm in the EU, too. Just in a country with (still... knock knock knock) low environmental taxes.

Had no idea you could buy a LHD car in the UK, brand new. Was it from an official dealership?
