The e60 was beautiful
I believe we are in the minority in that opinion. Unless you were trolling lol.
I loved E60 also. TBH, I also really liked the E65 7 series, the bulldog stance was amazing.
Now you're definitely in the minority : I wasn't the biggest fan of the E65 but even that was much easier to appreciate than the G80. Hopefully it looks much better in person.
Lol. I don't know, there was something about that 7 series. Never bought one but definitely liked the way they looked.

The E65 LCI was the perfect looking BMW sedan. They cleaned up the controversial bit and what remained what a low and wide gangster looking executive car.

The two 7-series generations since look like forgettable road whales. The current 7er was so bland and forgettable they had to graft that ridiculous nose on it for attention.

I agree with the OP. All of the early photos were taken from ridiculous angles that distorted the proportions terribly because they were simply focused on the grills.

I disagree with AlterZgo on the softness of the M4 rear flares. Yeah, could be wonder yet but the new shoulders on the 4 already made the stance appear wider.

I love the M4, but for me it痴 just not a practical daily driver so I知 awaiting delivery of my new M440iX which IMO is the next best thing. It痴 loaded on the ship and should be here in the next few weeks. Only immediate mods I知 planning are blacking out the Cerium nuggets in the grill to be more M like and dumping the runcraps.

I hated it at first (maybe because of how it was photographed etc) but when I saw the video of it on AutoTopNL, damn--I really want one now. I might just keep the F80 ZCP and get the G80 ZCP!

I owned a 03,04,06 and 08 7 series and currently have an 09 750li. All cars were great and the E65 was the best seller. Other than on the forums where everyone claimed Bangle was the worst designer BMW ever employed, I loved everyone of them and got numerous compliments. The G80 will be a hit and will sell a sh#@ ton.
I said it once and will say it again, BMW can't be profitable selling to purists. 95% of buyers will use this car as a daily and find a country road on the weekend and will never drive the car to its full potential. If its too heavy and unnecessary options, its not the car for you. Porsche has a 100k car perfect for the track and BMW will keep selling cars. No disrespect but the whining party is over.

I agree somewhat. All the renders didn稚 do this design much justice. Even some of the leaked photos had me questioning the design language. With the early leaked press photos I was still on the fence of the front end design but the rest of the car I thought looked great.
The very next day once all the videos hit YouTube from the unveiling, I thought it looked great. The M3/4 look much better in the videos, so in real life this car is going to look pretty amazing. I can稚 wait to see this up close.

100% agree. And I too have been in silence for three years since my last post, so I'd say our boats are in close proximity!

Just to share, I have owned quite a few BMWs in my lifetime starting with the E9x series and through the family brand. Of the last generation F8x models, I had owned the 2014 in apline white and again in 2017 in black. I currently drive a 2020 M340i.

In my opinion, I feel exactly the same - I love the look of the new M3. And while I'm honest, all my favorite M3 builds have been coupe; but this generation, I found the sedan to be more appealing to me, looks-wise. Personally, I am disappointed of the shoulder line of the 2021 M4, but doesn't hurt to have 2 extra doors.

Obligatory picture of my last M-car I had owned (which was 2017 M4). I cannot wait to buy the new M3 xDrive variant.

Yeah, even if you aren't completely turned off by the grill, you have to be concerned by the 500# weight gain. It won't be my next track car.

I assume yours is a M340i RWD; how is its steering compared to your 2017 M4's? (BMW doesn't bring in the M340i RWD here)

The exterior is ok, no problem there.
Transmission is the main concern since I have driven the M5 several times. In the M5 the tranny is horrible.
Second concern is weight.

In-person impression

Saw it in person yesterday at Advantage BMW in Houston. In summary, the overall design works. The grille is what it is. However, the carbon inlets are set way back from the front edge, the black trim along the bottom edges, and the hood intentions all work together when in person. From the front quarter, the lines along the bottom from front to back are really cool. The front wheel arches protrude more than I thought, as is apparent in the curve back into the body panel between the arch and the door seam.

The interior is really nice as well. I知 in an X3M Comp now and the G80 M3 Comp seats (not CF) we surprisingly comfortable and snug by comparison. As much as I壇 like the CF seats, I知 going to get the base seats as their adjustability is very good.

I値l be specifying mine in Portimao Blue and full Silverstone leather. I知 waiting on the AWD model to trade my X3M Comp, so still a couple of years out.
