Picture of the 6MT as none were shown in the original press packet.

Note that the iDrive controller moves rearward to make room for the shift boot. Therefore 6MT cars won't have the silly "M3" logo sitting on the center console where the iDrive controller will live.

Are you sure about that? The new Porsche cars have the particle filter here in the US too. The new GT4 sounds nothing like the prior model.

Two different companies with two different cost basis. Also, Porsche still had the ED program, BMW does not. I'm not 100% sure but I'm 90%. See current M340.

Worth noting that the E46 is only 4.5 inches longer than the E21. 23 year gap.

Cant find it in this press release, any info on the driveshaft? Is it back to CFRP or is it steel like the F8x cars got mid-2018 onwards?

Going through the press release, it's pretty clear they made very little effort to reduce weight on this gen. The only element they kept is the CF roof and I am guessing they did only because it shows. So no, no CFRP driveshaft because you can't show it off.

Yes, I was one of them. 3800 for the RWD car and 4000+ for the AWD car (which may be more like 4100-4200). Kind of a downer in that regard being so heavy. I’m hoping they’ve done a good job on suspension - particularly the way it handles uneven pavement.

I still don’t like the grills, but the remainder isn’t too bad. Those CF buckets are a nice seat. Not loving the exhaust sound but it’s not as bad as the S55 to me. I wonder how US prices will go up.

They are 100% targeting the chinese with this shite. BMW had a press release a few months back saying that Europe was no longer BMW's core market, and that they were adjusting their design philosophy because their largest market (china) likes their cars a certain way.

Some of the design decisions behind this car make you scratch your head.

1) lower TQ on manual model
2) lowest revving engine for an M3
3) heaviest M3 ever
4) ZF auto similar to the other models
5) power levels on par with the last gen C63
6) Significantly Over stylized

From a cost savings standpoint, this car seems to be a win... from an enthusiast perspective, it makes you wonder who this car was designed for. I won't question anything related to this car until I see the actual performance... it may be extremely good but is performance everything? If so... then the electric cars are overtaking.

Not that I have seen. Only the one with every M Perf part that makes it impossible to tell how the car looks in that color.

Curb weight of M340i is 3,849lbs. Curb weight of M340i xDrive is 3,968lbs, so AWD is adding about 120lbs for the M340i. I assume it would be similar for the M3/4. So should be 4,000lbs for M3 Comp AWD? I am surprised that it might be heavier than the M340xdrive though.

That's been the case for practically every ///M car thus far. Where all the added go-fast goodies, such as bigger and wider wheels and tires, bigger brakes, added chassis stiffening elements, beefier suspension, wider track, wider body, added engine cooling, etc, all added weight, which were partially offset by some weight reduction initiatives.

As far as I know, only the F8X managed to be lighter than the top-tier base series it was derived from due to significant weight reduction initiatives.

According to BMW USA website, the weight is now 3876 lb. I'm not sure if the quoted 3,849 lb. figure also originated from the same source, but they did add the 48V system to the 2021 model so that could explain the weight gain.

I have a 2020, so that could explain the difference.

Reading the comments on the you tube videos there might be 1 positive per 10 comments (maybe 1 per 20), how did BMW not do their market research on the grill? Imagine how popular the M3 would be if they left the standard grill (or version of it) on. As many others have said, not going to spend $90,000 on a car that I have to "get used to". Never once had that doubt with previous BMW purchases. Guess my options are another X3M, underpowered RS5 sportback, mercedes C class AMG, Velar SV Auto... and upcoming Maserati Grecale SUV (if it gets V8 version), which are all looking more attractive

There are plenty of renders with that grille; it's boring and looks the same as every M car currently out (I don't count the SUVs). Imagine using YouTube comments as a gauge for anything, social media is an echo chamber of repetitive rhetoric for likes. People don't say opinions, they say what they think other peoples opinions are so they can get that like button smashed. I said how nice I thought it was on Reddit, it's been funny as the days progress and I keep saying the same comments, watching it go from being downvoted to oblivion to slowly upvoted to popular, as opinions change and people do too.
People don't think for themselves; they are told what to like and stick in that lane to be safe, they're fed algorithms in their echo chambers.
I am so so glad BMW doesn't listen to social media comments and I love this car is divisive! Imagine an M340i with a body kit; so boring. I still can barely ever tell an F80 M3 apart from a 5 series or m sport 3 series from a distance, no one is mistaking this car!

That’s the thing, the M3 has become too much of a 340+ hence why they needed the fancy grill to differentiate it.

Only being a little facetious here

I'm on several other car forums of other brands and while there's still plenty that hate the look I would say more people like it than don't like it as it's definitely less controversial than something like the Civic Type R. It seems BMW fans online may be a little more resistant to change than the general populace. That said BMW fans would be more likely to purchase a BMW compared to the general populace but the reality is forum posters make up an extremely tiny portion of buyers for any vehicle. Regardless it's a big talking point and BMW has generated a lot of buzz with this revealing and manufacturers know that buzz good or bad is better than no buzz.

I'd like to have AWD for better launching and power to the ground even though RWD is hands down more fun. Have we heard if it'll have the M xDrive like the M5? If so it's the best of both worlds.
