What lightweight cars do Lexus, Mercedes, etc. offer?

AFAIK most, if not all, BMW M models are more lightweight than their direct competitors from AMG and Quattro?

Yes that's true, I'm sure an AWD G83 M4 Vert would tip the scales at 4,300lbs. Audi RS5 Sportback I think is over 4,100lbs. Freakin boats for that size of a car if you ask me.

Agreed! So far X4MC is on my shopping list. It would be helpful to have another 4-door alternative.

I was going to say the same thing. I thought that was the initial point when they turned the M3 into a 4 door with the new naming convention??

That's also true. F90 is lighter than equivalent RS7 and E63, but also consider outliers that show what a car can be if they tried. Like the previous 2016 Cadillac CTS-V (4,200lbs), and the next gen 2021 CT5-V Blackwing is slated to be even lighter than that. Although, yes kind of apples and oranges, but all German sports sedans and wagons are AWD now with heavy torque converter transmissions. Yet the 2021 CT5-V Blackwing will still deliver 650hp, RWD, and a manual transmission. Not everyone wants an Automatic 0-60, red light destroying, Tesla mashing, Nissan GTR pounding, German saloon these days. Guess I'm an outlier.

So the renderings are growing on me but are they not planning on putting the traditional M side mirrors? Also, why is it badges on the side too? I dig M cars having M badges but come on.

If they where thinking of making one, I'm sure the current situation just killed it off.

As you may be aware, magazine renderings like this are an artists guess, and their potential accuracy is at the mercy of how well the creator understands the subject material. Autocar's style of journalism is to be less concerned about getting details correct, and more concerned about being boisterous, fast and loose with reality, and just generally getting people to click.

The real M4 will actually look like, well, a real M4.

That's every media source these days - who can be first to get the clicks and post to Instagram for likes. These sources used to be good material to help with the buying process but now it's only good for entertainment.

Yes, but S58 is a beast that pulls 550 hp on dyno. Even the heavy stock X3 MC runs 3.5 s 0-60, so imagine M4 GC with 200-300 pounds less.

A future gen M2GC would be more compelling to me, but honestly it would probably be the size of an f80 and I could get that right now.

"BMW has committed to significant modifications over the 3 Series to provide the 4 Series with greater individuality and increased standing within the line-up."

Well they sure as hell pulled that off without a hitch.
