If you loved the 6MT that much, why did you get the CS then?

Since you asked, at the time there were exactly 0.00 unsold 6MT F80s in the country. The F80 had been out of production for 7 months.

My previous F80 lease was up, and I was over my miles by 33,000 miles. The buy out was $45k, the car was worth far less with 78k miles on it. It would have been financial suicide to buy the car. I was lured into the CS by test driving it, and it blows away a comp pack in handling and looks (as you well know being a fellow CS owner). I knew I would be in the car briefly because the G80 test mules were already long-since spotted so i did a quick 2 year lease. It was fun...for 2 weeks. Then I really started missing the manual.

True, but would it still be called the ultimate driving machine?
Learn to drive instead of just going in a straight line.

This is the target audience for the G80.

Are you saying the target audience is not the straight-line, howfastaroundtheRing crowd?

Those are two different audiences, this is confusing. The straight line "I live my life a quarter mile at a time" crowd is not the crowd that cares about ring times.

Why the f*ck is this thread still going? lol.

You must be the target audience; I am happy for you . I'm just a little surprised BMW is killing the product that their target audience desires so much

Here's a recent M2CS review with manual transmission. They couldn't stop talking about how much more fun the car is with a manual - and I agree!

This is becoming a relic. It's sad the future of sports cars is becoming like an appliance, go fast, less fun.

if it wasn't for the size I already would own a M2CS, lovely and beautiful car and compared to the M3CS and M4CS they at least gave us a MT! I'm sure this car makes LOTS AND LOTS of fun to drive!

anyway, for me it is too small...so I always wanted to go with the M3. Can the G80 be more beautiful? yes, of course the grill is controversial, very controversial (the rest is an eyecatch imo).

So i ended up deciding between the Giulia (this car gets way too less credit, it's a beast) and the G80. IF the Giulia still came with the MT i would have go for it (the facelift version is pretty good, they fixed a few stuff) as I kind of work "for" Alfa Romeo i get a lot of discount.
But I will go for the G80...the ONLY reason ist the MT. That's what I personally want from a car which is meant to be a driver car and I thank BMW with tears in my eyes for bringing this car still with a MT!

altough it could be more beautiful. But I don't mind, i like the car and this MT is going to blast! (and I SO don't care that the AT is faster, it's about fun not about being 0.4 seconds faster).

Indeed. All torsen type Quattro went 8AT (linear type) while the Haldex still have DSG (transaxle type), even the R8. We have it on our RS3, I’d say its execution is not quite as good as the M-DCT.

I think for daily driving it's super smooth in automatic mode.

As do I.
It's pretty incredible that starting this year a brand new model sport car allows you to get a 6MT, and that it starts at a reasonable price.

Here in the US the G80 6MT starts at 70k and comes with pretty much everything I want. That is pretty friggin awesome.

6MT FTW!

Bit late to the discussion... While I laud BMW for offering the manual I'm a bit irked that it's not available with ZCP. What's the reasoning?

Yes 6MT is slower than AT but that doesn't mean buyers want a detuned car.

Drive a F8X M2C and M3/4C back to back and you'll see how much of a difference a couple dozen horses make. It's noticeable.

In the case of the G8X it's not just 30hp but a whopping 70+ tq?

Give the manual the full 503/479.

I'm pretty sure if BMW did that and offered the 6MT with ZCP most if not all the *6MT buyers would opt for it over the base model

If that's BMW's agenda, then they'll be in for a surprise when the "slow" 6MT keeps up with its superior counterpart in sales numbers. The power gap is nothing a tune can't fix.

And we should all be very happy that BMW did NOT put a 7 speed row boat in there...

6MT for the win all day long. That said, I do not think I will ever own a G8x. But I am still happy the 6MT lives on to fight another day.

Cheers,

That's very wishful thinking. They had it with the same tune and the option to spec a 6MT with the ZCP last generation and the sales numbers weren't even close.

EDIT: I reread your post, you're saying that most 6MT buyers would opt for the ZCP. Well the only difference in the two cars is the transmission (and the tune that accompanies it) so it's academic.

Edited my post to clarify I meant specifically 6MT buyers and not all G8X buyers.

I think this generation vs the previous is a bit different. ZCP used to be just an option package that some buyers/dealers making orders may have not even known about. Now it's offered as a separate model and advertised much differently.

While that is true, it's silly to have to get an aftermarket tune on a 70k+ car (and potentially void your warranty in the process) when BMW could've simply offered the car with the extra hp/tq to begin with.

The manual transmission cannot handle the power and torque. They have said so expressly. They gave the power they determined the transmission could bear safely and without long-term reliability issues.
This entire thread is by far the worst thing this forum has seen since the G8x debuted, and I hate that it keeps getting resurrected and I allow myself to have the same argument over and over again.

They're killing the 6MT....by offering it for sale...

Take it easy friend, my argument said nothing about BMW killing the 6MT or any of that nonsense.

I didn't see anything about the 6MT not being able to handle the power in this thread. If it's there, I missed it. Either way IDK if that's a valid argument. The ZF seems to handle the F10 M5's 500tq fine.
