Negative

They claimed it was replaced with steel because of emissions or some crap.

2017+ F80 New BMW M3 and M4s will be fitted with steel driveshafts instead of carbon fiber ones as a result of the German manufacturer complying with emissions regulations, according to Autoblog. Apparently, the old carbon shafts were too thick to accommodate a new particulate filter on the exhaust system.
Actually some of us received replacement driveshafts constructed of CF.
New production;

I think 2015 had a steel shaft; 2016 had carbon fiber,
Then 2017+ was steel.

If you had a malfunctioning 2016 and it had carbon fiber I think they would replace with carbon fiber.

That said; unless CF was out of stock and no fitment issues with a steel then some circumstance I could see a steel or CF shaft as an option.

What year is your F80?

I am on my second F82. The first was a 2015 YMB. My current is a 2017 Nardo Gray (...purchased Oct'2016).

The M3 looks better and better to me each time I see it. And, I keep thinking my grills are too small on my current M4.

It happened to me on my CS overnight. The grilles look teeny tiny.

It's interesting how design works in manipulating and evolving your perceptions.

I was very fortunate my CA offered me the dealerships launch vehicle allocation which presumably according to him is a Dec production build. The terms of the ‘deal’ were that the dealership would keep the car (but not drive it) for a week for their show room display before I could take possession. Fair enough, I would say.

My 2015 F80 has a carbon fiber shaft. They transitioned to steel later in production.

Just what was so unique about the F80? I think many of you forgot about the threads and threads of non stop talk on how BMW let their key buyers down when that vehicle was released. Short memories.

How about its weight, light (relatively) and looks? What's so unique about the G80 as an M3? It can't be its weight.

Did you test drive the 1st year release of the F80?

"Over the years, tweaks to the BMW’s chassis and drivetrain calibration helped, but it wasn’t until the M3 Competition version arrived that the F80 M3’s potential was finally realised. Despite the 19bhp power bump, the Competition’s tweaks were so successful that BMW eventually dropped the standard version, leaving just the Competition and the rare, expensive CS available when production came to an end in 2018."

I had a 16 base F80 and hated the way it turned into corners. I agree.

I was new to the brand and didnt see the value in adding the competition pack because I hated the wheels (the original silver 666M not the later bicolor).

I had a first year M4 and didn't find issue with it. I can't really tell much difference between my '15 M4 and my '17 M4. Neither were/are Comp models; the latter is an individual build though.

I didn't like the wheels, plus I am a diehard lover of the 6MT.

You obviously knew you could get the F80 in competition package AND 6MT?

Yes, but the wheels were a major factor. I didn't really see enough value in the package to order it. I liked the seats though.

I hated the all silver, loved the 2 tone 666M.

I was never happy ( especially after tracking a ZCP) with the way the base F80 handled, even after i did MP HAS.

What wheels you going with on the G80?

One of the two tone versions. I can't recall the exact number off the top of my head. It's the wheel that looks like a newer, better designed and concave 666M.

It was the lack of concavity that made me dislike the 666M wheels. I thought the actual design of the wheel face was really good though. My favorite wheels are still the OEM BBS ZCP wheels from my/the '05 IB ZCP.
