First driving reviews when?

When can we expect the actual driving reviews to come out? Also, I'm still disappointed the X drive release is staggered. What are people's opinions on why that is?

Weight increase would be too hard to sell. It's already beefed up massively and x drive weight would push the bad press overboard.

We had some prototype reviews already, granted, you have to listen to Shmee if you want one in video form:
https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1735201

The cars are going into production next month, likely towards the end of the month, so I would think they'll be timing that with the release of the embargo from any press drives that happened to this point.

As for the delayed release of xDrive, it's more than likely a production ramp-up or supply chain issue than it would be a development issue or sales tactic.

I'm predicting pretty solid 9/10s etc

Looks might initially be polarising but it will be one heck of a performer I'm sure. For sure the weight will be the trendy thing to criticise on this release.

Everyone remember the F8X release and it was about the blasphemy of the Turbo M car Yeah that realllllyyyy held back the F8X platform, I barely saw any around here

First driving reviews?

Yep, checked Shmee's video out awhile ago. It wet the appetite a bit. I'm waiting for the the full production onslaught of reviews. Thanks for that insight and the thoughts on xDrive!

I also agree that weight issues/sales tactics probably aren't the reason for the delay on xDrive. There's a market out there that isn't as concerned with that issue, though I understand it. The benefits of XDrive for me outweigh the negative effects. I think the car would work for me in my daily spirited driving, and if I had to guess, the majority won't be tracking it. But this topic has been discussed ad nauseam already.

I do hope they get the low rpm power tweaked a bit better than the X3M, it's the main reason I didn't buy one.

For me if I get an M3 as a daily then it will be an X drive. I have a m340x now and it's a great car.

Comparing the displeasure about going from a V8 to a I6TT versus adding 400lb is ridiculous.

One is changing characteristics and can be argued with a lot of pros for both types of engine whereas the weight increase is a universal con, there's only disadvantages to adding weight.

But then again the audience BMW is targeting with the G8x is different from the prior iconic M cars.

No. It's not ridiculous. I'm just saying it will be the new thing to moan about.

a weight increase to add a configurable awd system that can be completely turned off to a car in which traction will overpower grip that you do not need to purchase in the first place is a universal con? lol Not to mention this same system was universally praised in the M5. The delay in AWD availability has absolutely nothing to do with reviews.

seeing that someone posted a M3 popped up at a dealership over the pond I would imagine we should see some driving reviews soon. I agree with the few above who say later this year but Im sure there will be a few sooner rather then later for those bigger reviewers.

So that IOMG M3 on the floor in Frankfurt was ready to take home if you coughed up 90k euros? That’s very cool, I thought it was another demo car.

I could be wrong but this is most likely another demo car. Hard to believe you can drive one back home in October when production is slated to start in November... But what do I know anyway!

I thought so also, but looks like its on the showroom in those pics and has pricing listed next to it . so im assuming like with the f8x Ms you remember some were popping up in other countries way before we thought you could get them which came to find out were not suppose to be sold that early so who knows.

Yeah. It appears they are targeting people that don't continuously whine about every little thing. We have whining threads for everything including the style of the wheel for crying out loud.

I actually think it is a bit of both, it definitely simplifies supply chain ramp up. But at the same time it controls the early messaging. If awd was co released with rwd all the messaging around the superiority of awd would dominate the headlines about the car. I think bmw would want to be sure that the commitment to the 6mt and the work they did on rwd balance gets its due in the sun before it all gets washed away by the absurdly quick 0-60 and superior lap times of the awd model.

It also allows for awd to have its own day as a separate press bump and be able to focus on things they did to further optimize the system. It just makes sense to keep it separate rather than cram it all into one press drive session

I am still a little surprised they would not offer a base AWD, even if it has less power say 450hp, they have the manual technology, why not spread it around to Xdrive?

Insider lemetier indicated that 6mt and xdrive didn't mesh well for a good driving experience. I don't have the link off hand but in one of the pre-release threads it was briefly commented on

Surprised there has been nothing.

We need some driving impressions or more photos/vids of cars in different colors. I want to see Davit/Tanzanite on a G80.
