BMW Advanced Car eye 2.0 question
was just reading up on the BMW Advanced car eye 2.0. was curious if anyone has it on their G80 or thinks they will get it.
its an expensive car so it kinda looks like a good deal but as with everything I wanted to ask the hive mind here what they thought of it.

Most will say that other aftermarket units perform better and/or cheaper.
Unless you want to stick with OEM offered solution, I'd recommend other popular aftermarket models. |

I have it on my G05 -- love it. I paid $1200 for parts and labor (southern CA). I find that it is really well integrated (including iOS app) -- I like having always on recording in addition to the "built-in" Drive Recorder option (activated with airbag deployment). Let me know if you have any specific questions.

I get the allure of having an official Bmw branded device but that price you could buy the Blackvue 4K cloud setup and have money left over for at least a years worth of mobile data. How much of that was labor for install? |

Other cameras do have better functionality and resolution. However, getting a Bmw product fitted by Bmw giving me a clean install and a place to complain was worth it. Also the parking mode works with radar which is great… |

Parts alone are $400+:
Shop BMW USA Link The installation process is quite involved -- see video for installation in an F15 X5: YouTube Link Keep in mind that I also have to pay the CA premium for labor. In the end, it was worth it to me to have the system professionally installed and covered with the BMW warranty (4 yrs factory warranty + extended warranty, if purchased separately). I like the system enough that I'll get it any BMW I purchase in the future. Last edited by bayarea328xit; 08-06-2021 at 01:49 PM.. |

Does it record video when parked? If so, for how long? What remote connectivity options are there? Does it alert on your phone if something happens when parked?

There is WiFi connectivity to view what is seen by both cameras or change settings using a mobile app - given that there is no integrated display. You have to be close by and connected to the camera to see the image/video data. There are no phone alerts. However, there is an "Events recorded during parking" audio message when you start the engine if an event is logged when parked. PDF of User Manual The user manual I received with the camera ("02/2020") is a bit different from the one linked above ("01/2018"). The linked version has more details re mobile app but less details re parking mode. Last edited by bayarea328xit; 08-06-2021 at 03:51 PM.. |

Kinda a bummer to only hear about an incident after the fact but at least it does record something.
