Reflecting on the g8x "hate"
Cars are meant to excite the driver and of course the right car for you is the car you will turn around to look at when walking away. The g8x is that car for me.
I've loved the m3 (and later the m4) the day I saw my cousins new e92 (I was 16 at the time and didn't know much about cars) and have long dreamed of owning one. That day has come and I've been proudly driving my g82 for about 3 months. I love every thing about it, including the grille. This car symbolizes the journey I've been on to acquire it, the love I have for BMW M cars, and a bond between me and my dad who has encouraged me to challenge myself to meet my goals and eventually acquire my dream car. But I can't help but read the 1000 upvote reddit posts that rip apart and ridicule our beloved g8x's. I don't care and it doesn't change my opinion about the car but I can't help but be offended for some reason! Does this type of shit-post bother anyone else? Rant over

I don't mind the hate, in fact it's sort of funny. What bothers me is the passive/aggressive ways they try and circumvent the moderator admonishment not to troll.
They try and be creative in the bashing now. I wouldn't worry about it, you love your car and they need to find a life...so you win! Have a good weekend. |

People don’t go out of their way to loudly hate on things that are obviously bad. People move on from things that suck pretty quickly.
The loudness of the hate reflects a high level of insecurity with their opinions. I only care to the extent that general sentiment impacts depreciation. Otherwise, I’m OK with it. |

I watched this when the 987 Cayman/Boxster owners crapped on the 981. The 981 version was beautiful, they, deep inside knew this was going to hurt the value of their car and "date" it. It was completely understandable from a human nature perspective but amusing to watch.

Nope. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. In fact, it's probably a good thing because they are hard enough to find as is. Can you imagine if everyone loved it?
I do feel bad for those that devote a good amount of their time to trolling forums for cars they don't like. That is something I will never understand. |

I just tell myself- if these people all posted what they drove on a daily basis, there wouldn’t be much of a conversation at all due to level of apathy on my end.
It’s strange when one goes to great lengths to dog on, or hell spend any sort of time on something they do not have, nor intend to. They say there is a fine line between love and hate, and I imagine that an extent of this comes from some sort of jealousy, curiosity and also the “in your face” element this car is. I too have enjoyed these ~3 months that I have had mine— My .02 don’t let others opinions of something that has generational importance to you in how hard you worked to gain your dream take away 1 ounce of enjoyment. Show em how that launch control works!!! |

This won’t be the first or last model that gets roasted. BMW sure did stray from its norms on design cues from models past but everyone is entitled to their opinion.
If people are offended with a different opinion and what they hear/read on a forum, you’ve got to get a thicker skin. I don’t know about the “insecurity” comment because it can go both ways in that if someone really is taking offense, maybe their insecure about their purchase. I agree some posters just don’t give up and that’s annoying… OP, you should be proud about your milestone! Don’t let Reddit bring you down from your high. In the end, it should be the community that brings us back together. Congrats on the purchase! |

There’s a subset of people who seem to enjoy jumping on hate bandwagons. Social media and to a lesser extent forums are a place where people can anonymously, without any real repercussion, just spew crap and somehow feel better about themselves. Seems like it’s risen to a new level with all of the COVID induced boredom and more time spent online.
When you step outside of the isolation and insulation of these virtual platforms, into the real world you get much more ‘normal’ reactions to things. I currently own a MK5 Supra (M3 is on a boat headed to me) and if the internet was truly judge, jury and executioner…I should have just set the car on fire and killed myself because it was an “abomination” (someone actually said that on a forum). When I’m out in the car, I get thumbs up from all demographics, people who know nothing about cars ask about it and want to talk, THIS is the real world. At the end of it all, I couldn’t care less about what others say. I spend my money for me and me alone. If someone else doesn’t like something I buy that’s fine but if you wouldn’t say it to my face, as most of the keyboard cowards would most certainly not…then why say it on a virtual platform? Wamion117 , Congratulations on reaching your milestone and enjoy your car in good health. |

I dont even care that people dont like it, its the going out of their way to bash it which is pissing me off.
I remember replying to a post on reddit about a question a member had on their g20. I said something along the lines of "my g80 has this too" and I got like 3 replies about how the grill is ugly, pigsnout, ect..- completely unwarranted. Its just annoying. I do have to say though, however, that in person I've received multiple, unsolicited, compliments on the car so it seems to only be a internet issue. Whatever, at the end of the day I love the car and the huge grills. |

Nevermind the knee-jerkers who can’t handle new and different designs. The G8X is one of the coolest looking cars in a sea of boring and stale.

I couldn't care less about what people think of the way car looks. I'm not paying $90k for people's opinions, I'm spending it on what I like. But hey, my old school 76 and 73 y.o. parents love the way my G80 looks.
This car represents the work I put in my education and the agony that went into it. It means so much more than a car to me at this point.

I don't get all the comments about people hating the grill!!!! BMW spent all of their time on the part of the car that people will see the most of.....the rear end and it’s a piece of art😏

Couldn’t agree more. I liked the design from the beginning. When I saw the G82 in black I was blown away. One of the best looking cars I’ve ever seen. I was tempted to buy it despite really wanting an Xdrive version. I’ve seen two G80s in Brooklyn and white and they both look amazing. Like another poster says I’m glad there isn’t more interest, the car is hard enough to find as is. I have a production number for an Xdrive G82 in BSM (build week 36) and I’ve never been more exited about a material possession in my life. I suspect the people who say a lot of the hate is based in jealousy are spot on.

Considering allocations are hard to come by, order queue is massive and a lot of dealers are charging over MSRP… I’d say things are working out fine.
I didn’t like the front grille at first. I kinda love it now. |

I saw a black M4 yesterday and it looks super aggressive with that grille and new looks. I was impressed with the road presence and it is for sure going to make anything around it look boring (include the F series).
It stands out and looks bad ass for sure. Those haters are d*mbf*ck$, low morons, excuse my fancy French.
