No, and that's a surprise. One of the reasons I hesitated (for a little minute) when I traded my M2C for my G80 was that I was under the assumption that I would want the M2 when it came out. 21 months later, I'm too satisfied with this car as a daily to want the smaller M2 (though I also really, really do not want anything larger).

I thought about it but can't realistically enjoy the car as much as I'd want to with RWD here in Colorado. Plus I like the extra bit of power and four doors on my G80. Damn, do I love the size of the new M2 though, despite how heavy it is.

I would have been more interested in the M2 if it weighed less. But the fact that it weighs nearly as much as a G82 more or less eliminates one of its biggest advantages.

I wanted an M2 forever, but I needed something just a tad bit more roomy and comfortable. Also, I no longer go to track days so the luster of having a small agile RWD street fighter has worn off.
I don't mind the design of the new M2, I actually like it quite a bit. But the M4 makes more sense... and XDrive... can't forget about that. |

I believe that the G8x is the perfect car in the entire BMW lineup . Can’t understand why someone would buy any other BMW

New M2 looks really funky. Maybe it will look better in person, who knows. I actually wasn't crazy about the G80 styling in general until I saw it in person and loved it ... although I personally think the front grille looks better on darker colors.
Anyways, not sure what's going on with BMW as the styling is just all over the place across the model lines. And I recently saw the XM, which seems even further out there. |

BMW seems to be consciously and actively moving away from the "corporate look" mentality and it is sort of refreshing to not have every car look like exactly the same but in varying sizes.

If I was a rich 20 year old I would be all over an M2. Times have changed. The g80 is an absolutely perfect car for what I want and need a car to do. My e46 M3 is not going anywhere and fills that void for a small manual fun car when I want it.

its the 4" shorter wheelbase. It will feel more nimble and eager to turn in. even though weight is similar. the physics of how it attacks a corner is different. same reason you see luxury brands do 'extended wheelbase' versions. it makes the car ride better, and more stable at speed, at the cost of agility.
its also why 911s have RWS now. high speed stability + low speed agility.

If they come out with a comp version that has Xdrive I will make the switch immediately. Otherwise, no lol.
I had a G42 and prefer the smaller body style and lines of the M2, but AWD is a must for me.

I just don't get how a smaller car like that can weigh the same. And the only version out right now is manual + RWD. If (?) they release an auto/xdrive that thing is gunna be a whale... If it was like 3400lbs I'd seriously consider. Will look killer in black or grey IMO |

I think what we're witnessing is one of the downsides of modular platforms such as the CLAR that BMW has developed. Yes it helps optimize manufacturing, but you no longer have bespoke cars - and there are limits to how much weight you can cut out of a car without getting extreme. So even though the M2 is a smaller car, because it's on the same platform and doesn't employ any extreme weight savings measures (aka CSL), you're stuck with a car that's lost one of its biggest advantages over the rest of the lineup.
