Anyone have their car appraised by a dealer for a buyback in this market

Anyone go into the dealer for an appraisal just to see what our G8Xs are worth in this market? It seems to be cooling off a bit. I remember seeing similar spec of my car about $5k more than what I paid for it going for sale on autotrader. I figure I could at least get out of the car without taking a hit at least, or even come out on top a bit. Curious if anyone else has done it.

I had my 21 M4 comp appraised on Saturday by BMW on Camelback in Phoenix.

24k miles.$88K sticker.

They offered me $73k. My buyout is $70k for reference. They told me they would have given me sticker 3 months ago for what that's worth

Just like everyone predicted, the market is normalizing again. RIP everyone who paid over sticker. Cars are depreciating assets once again.

Yep. I think we are pretty quickly going to get back to normal, where the largest percentage of depreciation happens shortly after purchase (the ol drive it off the lot hit) and then depreciation happens afterwards based on time and mileage. I think there will be a slower/shallower curve once manufacturers stop making certain engines and go to hybrid or electric only, but the days of used vehicles going for more than they were new are over. This may not apply to very limited production runs like the CSL...those will likely command over MSRP for awhile.

The Carmax and Carvanas of the world are taking massive profit hits and are offering a lot less to buy your cars. Your everyday dealerships are starting to look less like ghost towns with their lot inventory.

2021 til mid 2022 was just weird for the market.

Didn’t you wreck your car for like $30k+ in damages? I’d have to imagine if they run the VIN and the wreck shows you’d be nowhere close to coming out ahead…

It is what it is. I remember when I first got my car a year and a half ago BMW Riverside was asking $25K over on M4 comps. I told them to go to hell.

Not me. I plan on keeping my manual M4 for (hopefully) a lot of years.

Wrecked it on track from what I remember. Paid for all the repairs out of pocket without involving insurance. It's unlikely to show up anywhere if the body shop doesn't care. Any half-decent inspection may pick up on clues to work but the dealer's not likely to make too fine a point on it and most end buyers won't do that level of due diligence. If the car's around 12 years down the line, some owner then may wonder why rust bubbles are showing up under the paint. This is something that actually happened on a car my parents kept for 15 years - on some body work that looked flawless for more than a decade after repair and repaint. If the car ever changed hands, there's no way to have made that correlation.

The ladder was just a joke since Tyga11 hit one and put a nice gash in his bumper.

Now that you mention it, I remember OP saying he wasn’t going to use insurance so you are right, unlikely any report was made on it. Like you said though, if they do any inspections beyond just a quick walk around I’d expect them to notice that it was in a wreck and repaired.

I usually keep my fun cars for 10+ years on average so it doesn't matter much to me. By then, I think most people would have gotten wise to the electric car political BS and will be seeking out clean gas engine cars.

Ah.. I didn’t know that. Sucks to see so many accidents and then the inevitable wait to get repairs done.

I think the abnormally high resale/pre-owned values we saw in 2021-mid 2022 convinced a lot of people who weren't intending to sell their vehicles to jump in while the water was warm. In a way, I'm kind of grateful, because it was the final push for me to sell my truck, which I loved, and get into my M4, which I love more. If it weren't for those resale numbers, I may have just kept the truck. It was a bit of musical chairs, so hopefully everyone landed where they wanted to now that the music has essentially stopped.

For sure. Bought an ‘21 X5 45e at $1k over invoice (minus loyalty on top) financed at 0.9%, and got a decent trade-in on its predecessor. Also got the full federal tax credit. Bought a ‘22 M4 xDrive with hardly any wait (July ‘21 order for Individual color, built in September ‘21) at MSRP with 0.9% honored. Crazy resale value on its predecessor in November ‘21.

Paid to jump in when everyone was sitting around wondering where the economy was going or hating on the G8X front fascia. Saved $20 to $30k on price, trade-in values, tax credit and lifetime interest across both cars with the timing. Not to speak of crazy long waits to get the ordered cars now.

The market is responding to interest rates shooting up. Nothing more.

Paying $5K over last year is cheaper than paying sticker today.

The M3 especially AWD comps are still commanding MSRP or higher for the most part, M3s are taking 8 months to a year to get ONCE you get the allocation, where the m4 can be had quickly.

Not sure where you guys are, I have literally everything on my M3 aside from individual color and my trade in is $75k and I paid like $108 out the door. I only have 4,000 miles.
