"Facelift" fits to the description for the "LCI".
It will be interesting for sure to see how the design is altered… However they did not redesign the E46 M3 nor the E9X M3 outer bodies! They added LED tail lights and very subtle things such as updates to idrive. Not sure what they did to F8X - didn't pay attention to that series. Since the G8X already has LEDs all around should be interesting what an "LCI" looks like.

any "Facelift" will probably be minor.. minor enough that if it looked better, I'd probably buy the bumper, guess we'll have to wait to see on the headlights and tail lights but those can be retrofitted too
That's usually been the extent of the facelift, I'm personally glad I avoided the idrive 8, so we'll see what the cosmetic changes bring, but it is crazy to see the last MY we'll see for the g80 is 2027...b4 EV

I expect engine changes because other BMWs are getting engine changes for LCI. Maybe mild hybrid... or even "full" hybrid wouldn't surprise me.
Last I heard, the M2 was to be the last non-hybrid M car. But maybe that doesn't apply to updates (LCI). Either way, it's a damn good thing that the G80 is stupid fast already, so I am not concerned with missing performance if a hybrid comes out. And it might be good to give it a year or two for BMW to work out any kinks before purchasing a hybrid M3. On the other hand... BMW has been making (arguably the best) hybrids for years now, so maybe not too many bugs/kinks. Feels like I'm arguing with myself. But on the other hand... |

I think they mean it will be the last non-hybrid M car to be launched. Next generation M5 (H90?) will definitely be hybrid, and the next M3 (H80?) will likely be also. Though there's always the possibility that the extension of the G8X means the next gen will be a full BEV. I doubt it, but it's possible.

I would bet on a hybrid (H80, H82, etc - even the naming convention lines up for a marketing bonus!) around 2028, followed by the BEV at 2035 unless a PHEV exception is carved out before the 2035 deadline.
I've said it many times and I'll say it again - give me i8 styling, an S58, and around a 200hp electric motor and I'll be happy. Make it a PHEV if you want as a bonus or EV-only when in reverse or under 15 mph forward and I'd be ok with it. Well, as long as they integrate the infotainment screens back into the dash and ditch the "slapped on a billboard as an afterthought" look. Hell, I'd even prefer NO screens and just the HUD than the ID8 stuff being put in right now.

Technically anything can be thrown at the S58 under G8X's hood which will stick around until 2027. But it's very unlikely BMW has a solid plan now, until they're forced to.
A few indications: 1. The CSL is supposed to be the pinnacle of the S58 development, yet it is only a tune. So will be the LCI1 based the M3 CS (confirmed) and the LC2 based M3 CS (rumored). Therefore, we can pretty much forget about something like a 200hp electric motor addition at any time of G80 lifecycle. 2. For those hoping for adding mild hybrid (48v) - there is already the belt driven 48v motor mounted at the very front end of the B58, replacing the traditional alternator starter. Aka the P1 48v technology. It is at the bottom of 48v food chain that you definitely do not want to have in an M car. Even the P2 tech (gear box integration), like what Merc is implementing with its I6 models, is hardly M worthy for the most, with so little power gain for its complexity, weight and cost. The P2 primarily addresses the issues of turbo lag and fuel economy that very few seem to care. And, the ZF8 for the G80/20 is not ready for the P2. 3. It's not that everyone is complaining about the S58 performance 4. It's kinda funny saying this but the EOP of 2027 is not that far away. The next gen 3er will be out in 2025 (assuming 2 years into 5er's launch, traditionally). Few would be still counting on the G80 development. If anything force to phase out S58 from 2026-2027, the M would rather just discontinue the G8X all together, move on and focus on the hybrid H8X.

Launching an all-wheel-drive car with manual transmission is no easy task. The clutch would have to be reinforced. There’s plenty of grip with this car as rear wheel drive in the current configuration. Nobody in real world driving needs more than the M3 base. The rest is for bragging rights.

I rented a model s plaid for a few days just to see what it’s about. That car completely distorts reality anytime you remotely lean on the throttle. Actually it’s terrifying to think there are low 9 second cars that almost anyone can get behind the wheel of.
It really makes cars like the M5 and E63 feel old and antiquated as grand tourers. I wouldn’t trade my G80 base for one, but that’s because horsepower and speed isn’t the name of the game for me. Adding a hybrid system a la the new C63 would just make the car heavier and worse in every way. |

I think the fact BMW have put it out there that there will be an official LCI/facelift for G8x for first time and not just model upgrade measures suggests to me big changes coming. Be it interior, exterior or engine.
Precedents have already been set with the M2, M5 and the X's and I think major visual changes can't be ruled out. At a minimum, new front (no more laser and invert the DRLs, like the 3er) and rear lights (swap white glass for red) but that's what the upgrade measures already change. |

You don’t have to go back too far to find a time when the idea of 500+hp and 3.x 0-60 in a 3er would have posed the same kind of questions. Apparently it’s progress - and long may it continue!!!!

I think they made it clear when they introduced the new G8x that the Manual transmission was there to stay for the whole production run of the car.

In my opinion, very high. I also don’t believe the future M2 Competition or CS model will offer anything but an automatic transmission.
