Along the same lines, everyone realizes that the “473 hp” base G80 6MT actually makes AT LEAST 496hp at the crank, right?

I remember seeing a YouTube video of some guys in the Netherlands dyno their car and get this. In other words, it’s not like the G80 6MT, even in its “weakened tune” is sluggish!

No the M2 CS felt massively different than an M2C as did an M5 CS to an M5C. Maybe the F80 M3 CS didn’t feel that much different than an M3, but that was before BMW put out those 2 CS cars I mentioned.

No one said it was akin to a 911 vs a 911 GT3, but it is about a significant feel in the way the car drives vs. it’s base model. It’s also about an $18k price premium on an xdrive M3 while a GT3 (after ADM) is about a $100k+ premium on a base 911.

Curious to see if these cars make more power or they are they are just reporting what's already there.

As far as Ford Performance, their powerkits are warrantied through Ford Performance. Even though it is a part of Ford, Ford Performance is considered an aftermarket tuner. Granted the power kits use Ford Parts and the tune is done by a lot of Ford Engineers but its not really tied into the factory OEM warranty. The powerkits have to be installed by an ASE certified mechanic. I have one of these kits on my Mustang. It would be nice if BMW has this for the M cars, I remember they used to offer it for the 335/340is in the past.

We all know BMW under advertises its figures. If the M2 is stated to be 460hp, I guarantee on a dyno it will exceed that number with no mods.

Accordingly, if they state 525hp, my guess it would dyno closer to 550.

The G87 is 453 hp in the U.S., no clue why the 460 number is mentioned elsewhere. I have not invested anytime into researching the matter. BMW is always conservative on their horsepower and 0-60 numbers anyways.

Was wondering how it went from 453 to 460, also. I guess my fingers/brain had the 460 number programmed when I posted above. Either way, I bet it will dyno higher than the mysterious 460 figure.

However existing base or comp are hp underrated from a real world dyno perspective, the new +15hp version most likely would have 0.1 bar or 1.4psi more in peak.

The concern is that sometimes the peak hp is not the full story. Back in F8X, the comp is 20hp more than base, supported by holding 2psi more only above 5k RPM. The CS, with a claimed 10hp more than comp, was significantly quicker, faster and more responsive at full rev range, due to a different pre throttle boost strategy and middle range torque (again, not just middle range peak torque).

Could be HP to HP metric. Some countries use a slightly different HP measurements.

Thanks for the explanation. For those who want to know, the ration difference for calculating and converting is 746/735.49875 x 453 = 459.5

Best to just use 338kW, then your don’t have to know which horsepower measurement standard is used

Standard conversion factors:

Metric / PS / CV / DIN horsepower - 0.73550 kW
Mechanical / SAE / Brake horsepower - 0.74570 kW
Electrical horsepower - 0.74600 kW
