Digital Key
Hi guys,
I’m trying to figure out how to get my digital key. There seems to be a fair amount of contradictory information out there so I was hoping you guys can chime in to get it straight. I’m referrring specifically to using my iPhone as a key (not talking about the card at all). It is my understanding you need to get an email from BMW itself that has a link that you use to set this up. My car is 2023 g80 base w manual transmission. My salesperson kind of passed me off to the genius who I have not talked to at this time. Let me know. Thanks! |

I also have a 23 manual base, and I don't believe digital key is supported. It is on my 2022 x5m and the option was in the app to setup, but not on the m3.
See manual below. Digital key is only supported and enabled on the auto cars. Last edited by skyline408; 03-20-2023 at 10:13 PM.. |

I have it on my X5M and used it a small handful of times over the year. I don't really miss it. |

As noted above, in the USA market, the digital key is not supported on the manual transmission models.
I really don't understand why, as it's just an NFT chip installed in the driver's door handle and the charging tray. Perhaps there's more to it than I can possibly imagine, and the shifter mechanism somehow interferes with the tray?

I'd forgotten that they moved it, since it's useless regardless of where it is.

Now that was on a '21 and my previous phone. I have not yet tried it on my '23 and new phone.

How hot did it get. I mean, its supposed to charge by induction so some amount of heat is expected. I have mine with my case on and it charges flawlessly. Much better than my wife's stupid Volvo XC60 wireless charger that keeps on disconnecting with every turn I make. I almost took it out but gave it a shot and it really gets the job done even if Im driving like a maniac

Well, I have an X3M40i and have all my keys for my office and other stuff are on it. When I wanna take my M3 to work, I just take my X3 keys and use my phone as I dont feel like carrying another keyfob. I always carry a keycard in my wallet as backup. So worst case, I can unlock the car using myBMW app and then use the key card from my wallet. Its been great so far. I start to ride my bike soon and this would have have come in handy even more but alas, no bike hitch or carrier options for the M3. Have to stick to the X3 for now.

It is a 23 and I have the newest iphone, whatever it is called… pro max ultimate bs. The car is awesome. It unlocks before you even get to it and it locks when you leave. Works well. One less rote routine you need to be aware of. Car takes care of it, and it will auto perform your preferred AC settings and seat position based on your profile. I like it a lot! Toss the phone in the charger tray and you’re done. I used to look and wait to see the blue light came on, but it works. Now I don’t worry about it. Not sure if that works with the app, but def with the key. |
