Older woman got my car with her door...

I think I may have overreacted to the situation, but maybe not?
So I was parked in front of the store I was at with my husband. The parking spots are big and spacious. As I was standing in line, he noticed an older woman (80s or so) who opened her car door and hit my car with it, and her door was just leaning on my car. He went outside and told her, her door was leaning on my car, but she didn't do anything to remedy it. So I went out there, left my husband to pay, and told her that her door was against my car. She quickly denied it and moved it and starts touching my car and arguing with me. There wasn't a huge mark, but it was the principle that she didn't give a shit about someone else's car they worked hard for.
Another woman (40s) comes out from the store and starts intervening, thinking I'm about to throw down with this older lady, recording on her phone, trying to get some good footage. There was not even any inkling of confrontation, just me telling the lady I was going to take a picture of her license plate and that she should watch other people's stuff.
She tells me that if my car is that expensive, park it somewhere else. We kept going in circles, and finally my husband came out and I didn't want to continue this, so we left.
Surprisingly, I got all of this (the confrontation) on my dash cam
Regardless of age, I think I should be able to say something.
Yes, I could've parked further away, but it still didn't warrant that.

Just venting, I know it's just a car 🤦

PPF, this is why.
If you care, it’s just an expense you are going to have to swallow at some point, for your mental health.

Which is not to say you should spend $10k on it, but… it’s worth it.

PPF helps but you'll need paintless dent repair in some instances. Without PPF, a repaint may be unavoidable to get back to perfect.

You’re not overreacting. Just because she doesn’t care about her car, she should at least respect that others might care about theirs .

Some people have issues. For any damage, make them pay.

Just had my ‘22 G83 totaled by someone not paying attention, mistakes happen and accidents are the result. When Baby Blue was alive and running I’d park that car as far away from other cars as possible to avoid your very scenero. Maddening behavior by careless, selfish people can drive you crazy because you know that you’d never knowingly behave like that. Other people!!

I’d have reacted the same way. It’s for this exact reason that I ppf’d my entire car. I still don’t park in tight spots but don’t feel like I need to park a mile away.

Nothing wrong with passion - we’ve spent a lot - time, money and effort. How bad is the mark? Can it be paint corrected? If you’re keeping the car a while, and you feel worth it, maybe PPF the doors but it adds up.

I get that majority of people have different priorities and that some people don't care about cars as much as we do but i just feel like there are way too many people who don't care about cars..

even if i'm getting a ride in a friend's car, i always open the door carefully not only to avoid hitting another person's car but to avoid damaging the friend's car.

I even try to avoid stepping on dry flaking grass so that i don't get those grass in someone else's car, as well as avoid stepping on anything dirt/dirty before getting in.

But those who don't care about cars at all always tend to have dirty cars, run through car washes with brushes, lack general maintenance, dings and damages here and there, etc, you get the idea.

I honestly don't care if you treat your car like $hit but at least watch out for other people properties.. i had this instance where i was with my buddy who has a E90 m3 and this merc parks beside it and there was a 5 year old boy with his mom. His mom is busy getting herself in the car and as expected, the 5 year old boy opens his back door wide open and slams my buddy's e90 m3 side mirror. and they just leave as if nothing ever happened....

No, you didn't overreact at all, but this is a car enthusiast forum and we are all going to agree with you.

Like most people here, I've always been into cars, and I have always taken care of my vehicles even when I was a high school kid driving around cheap "beaters." But we are the minority. Most people not only don't care about their cars in this way, but they also think that those people who do care about their cars (us) are wrong, materialistic and selfish. You know the drill...you park far away from others and people think you're a douche. You double park (even if far away from others) and people really think you're a douche and may even vandalize your car. But if you park in a regular spot, you'll get door dinged, scratched, dented, whatever. And if you get upset about that, you're somehow the bad guy/gal.

Almost as annoying as you getting dinged is the other woman who showed up and brought her phone out to start recording everything. From the older woman that hit your car, denied it, then blamed you, to the woman that was recording...the whole situation sucks. I'm sorry you had to deal with that.

Pisses me off to have to do it but always park anything I drive in the outer fringes of the lots. Even my 25 year old pickup.

Ladies response after hitting the door says a lot about today's entitlement culture. Fact that she mentioned expensive car sounds like she has an axe or door in this case to grind toward successful people.

I think I may have brought it up first, saying it's an expensive car, and then that was her response.

Mistakes do happen, and if it was a mistake the person would normally be genuinely apologetic… and in that case, live and let live with love in your heart.

For those who aren’t apologetic at damaging someone else’s property, this is usually why they are driving shitboxes to begin with. Their whole life is likely a mess and they don’t give a single F about themselves and least of all you.

For the OP and this 80yr old lady though… that’s probably just the way it goes. At a younger age I think it speaks to the quality of the person on the whole, to be so careless, but she’s 80 and many at that age probably find it tough to care much about vehicles (or anything).

Totally disrespectful of other people's property. It's one thing if it's an accident and they apologize but to act like that after being confronted is just obnoxious.

Unfortunately, people just don't give a shit about anything and it's gotten a lot worse post COVID.

Should have walked outside and just instantly punched her, 80 or not. Maybe next time she’ll care then.

I feel your pain. Some jackass did this to me while I was parked last weekend. I was in an end spot at the local home center. They must have cut the corner too close. PPF saved me except for the edge. Going to try removing the PPF, touch up, then reapply PPF.

People are never going to care about your stuff the way you do. You might as well be shouting into the wind.

Parking further away avoids 99% of issues and gets you a few extra steps in.
