Bruh... BMW does not learn from its mistakes huh, this steering rack noise issue happened to F30 so much that they released a fix kit for it. Granted not the same exact issue, but boggles my mind that they still can't get it right this time around.

Is there an easy way to know which steering rack the car has?

Is there a way to know if a vehicle has been affected, perhaps by VIN? Last thing I want is to take it and get sent back due to my Dinan springs. Late build 2019 here, clunk comes and goes honestly doesn't bother me anymore but might as well take it and get it sorted if it's affected.

Good luck. I just had my car "rejected" because they couldn't rule out that my H&R springs was not the cause of the noise...I am so pissed. I had this "clunk" documented at the same dealership (PLANO BMW) by the shop supervisor (who heard it and confirmed the noise) and they are still pushing back...I'm going to order the Meyle equivalent on ECS and do it myself. I have a 3 year alignment deal with NTB (highly recommend) so no biggie. Not worth the damn headache.

For those lowered or on different suspension, here are the parts on ECS:

I was sent here from a similar thread here:
https://bmwi.bimmerpost.com/forums/s....php?t=1994439

That thread has a video for a completely different fix, so now I am wondering if there are TWO separate issues, that maybe got lost in the use of Crunching/Cracking/Clunking adjectives?

Does anyone know if BMW has since corrected this at a certain date onwards? For example as of February 2023 production vehicles onward, this is not an issue because a different steering rack and or tie rods is being used? Or is that wishful thinking? My car is currently on a boat to the US and I don’t want to lower it now if there might be front suspension issues the dealer needs to take care of first.

You realize that the minute you do a mod to your car, in this case the H&R springs you are screwed on a claim like this unless you can find a sympathetic service manager who will help you out.

You also had the option of visiting another dealer and hopefully they will rule in your favor.

Anyone have reports post-work? Curious if the tie rod swap is actually a remedy.

I just had this service/replacement done on my car. My tire pressure was really low and I noticed a nail in my tire, so I only drove a couple hundred feet around the lot and right back into the service area (lol), but I heard the creaking again in that short amount of time

So as of right now, the tie rod end replacement didn’t do anything for me.

Just happened for me today after 1100 miles, heard the vibration twice within a minute or two. Scheduled service. Thankfully I don’t mod my cars. Also, for some strange reason my drivers side window has roller tracks. Going to have them look at that to clean it up and grease the mechanism or replace it.

The tracks on your window is likely from cosmoline.

I've had this in one form or another on nearly every bimmer I've owned. It'll work itself out over time, just keep rolling your window fully down/up as often as possible if you want to speed it up.

I’ll put one of my kids on it! 😎 (rolling the window up and down is one of their favorite things to do)

So after the service was completed on my F95, they said that everything looked “tight” but they wouldn’t consider the notice because of my adjustable springs - “aftermarket suspension”.

The minute that you do any modifications on your car they have a perfect excuse not to cover some repairs.

I just had this done to my 45E (G05) yesterday. <805 miles. I took receipt on 3/15/23 and noticed within 10 days. tech also fixed a setting on my hood that would cause a creak when going over an uneven road. Also had the ambient light control module replaced. All is good 24hr later FWIW.

Anytime you venture and push boundaries there will be things you simply can't catch without longer periods of operation. Engineering is always pushing boundaries, making cars lighter, stronger, for hardly extra money from the last model. Innovation always comes with a new set of "opportunities ". If we simply waited for them to find all the issues with a new vehicle, there would only be a new model every 10-20 years.

I’ve just purchased a 2019 330i and I’ve noticed a clunk in the right front corner only when reversing with left lock. Two questions…
  1. Does this sound t like the same issue?
  2. Given its a know issue, should BMW cover the cost of the repair even if the vehicle is out of new car warranty? The car has only done 20,000km.

Cheers, Sam.

Had this service bulletin work performed on my car.

Unfortunately did not resolve the issue.

Hey what did u do to recreate the noise btw ? Was it just steering the the wheel back and forth when the wheels are stationary ? Or is it recreated in a different way ?

I’ve noticed a kinda creaking /flexing noise when steering the wheel but only when the car is stationary and I’m holding the brake down while steering.
