I've owned the OG F87 and now on my second G82.
There is no comparison. Sure, the F87 has a shorter wheelbase and "feels" more tossable, nimble etc. at first glance. But after driving it for a while, you will get the crap beat out of you, you'll start to hate the lack of traction and miserable interior quality, a bit too much understeer, zero sound insulation and just a general feeling of not being a very refined vehicle. Which is why I'm back in a G82.

very different cars. the g8x is going to faster in nearly any scenario. even an f90 m5 runs a faster ring time than the m2cs
An M2cs is more for people wanting the old school bmw feel like an e36 or e46 m3. And it will hold value better since its limited production. If this is a weekend or nice weather car i'd go m2cs. If this is your daily driver then go with the m3.

The M2 CS will be slower in almost every scenario, however it will get you a more "pure" drive. You'll feel more engaged with the car, it's more nervous, edgy. It will provoke you to misbehave more often, if that makes sense.
That being said, and having tried both, I went with the G82. Although some times I'd like it to be more like the M2 CS, I like it better the other 95% of the time. |

On the drag strip and on the track, stock for stock, the G8X will be faster. However, the M2C is an absolute joy to drive on the track and I can imagine the M2 CS is even more fun. It just loves to dance around and it's so fun to slide it around.

Waited years for the new G80 M3. Ready to go and then the front end dropped. Was shopping Porsches and came across the M2CS, and found an allocation. My first new BMW. Took performance center delivery and it was amazing. I used the M voucher and did the 2 day M school driving all the new M3s, M4s and M5s. After that experience I was sold on the new M3. I sold my M2CS and bought a G80 M3 Base. M2CS had the (slight) edge from a steering perspective which I think is vague and oddly tracks on the M3 on rough/crowned roads, but M3 beats it out in pretty much every other category, and I can put the car seats in the back and take the kids with much easier.

The short chassis makes it super unstable, there are constant traction issues and the stock suspension is completely unforgivable and bouncy... as a daily it's too small and just lacks some refinement.

an M2 is a joy to drive... however you have to overcome massive shortcomings on a track (like being all over the place) and having to watch its snap tendencies... if that's what you are looking for, then the m2 is for you

plenty of space as a daily for me and my gf. roads aren't too bad around here. although if i lived in an inner city like st. louis or chicago its very unforgiving. i like the lack of traction, makes it fun to slide around corners.

It had wild up and down motions on a number of roads, the back end would come out if pushing harder and it just felt far too on edge... like all it wanted to do was drift. 15 year old stock corvettes with their longer chassis were running away from me because i was worried about pushing harder... not sure what to make of that... a few pro reviewers called this out and did not get a good response from the general public.
