Yes when its dark enough they make some difference over the standard lights but lets not get carried away.

If youre talking about purely aesthetics...yes they look better. Laserlights win that contest I still wouldnt class them as a must.

Do they add a nice finishing detail to the M package?....yes....do you NEED them? Nope.

Obvs. Just my thoughts

laser v. LED

From the reveiw the lasers only go on at over 35mph in brights mode and are not as bright as LED just have a longer length of view. Is this true?

I feel like the standard lights have a way of balancing out the large grill (which I love) whereas the laser lights accentuate it. If I had the choice now would I pick the laser lights? Probably...but as someone who has the standard lights, it has it's own look that I've come to love. All IMHO.

Do you have the shadowline headlight package? Would you be able to share closer pictures of the car? Thanks!

Have them on my '21, didn't order them on my '23. I don't really drive at night and the appearance wasn't worth it to me. To each their own.

I’ve been scouring the forums for this very same answer. Odd this post never came up in my search. Anyway, I live in the city and rarely drive where the brights would be used. With that being said I currently have them optioned. As some posters said, paying $90k for a car and not getting a $1k option seems silly. I like the looks of the running lights with the laser lights so I’m getting them. I wouldn’t base your decision off the guy that said you don’t want to look cheap not getting it. That’s just stupid. It’s a personal preference and if you care what someone else thinks about the options on your car you probably have bigger issues in your life/head. Research both and weigh your options. It’s not a need, it’s a personal preference.

having had a 22 M4 with the regular lights and now a 22 M3 with the laser lights I notice almost no difference in night driving. like zero. However, i would get them simply for the aesthetics! they look so much better

Like most says, it's such a cheap option to add that's arguably better looking.
Aside from the not too-often-used laser high beams, and if I'm not mistaken, the standard LEDs have dummy inner lens that don't have the actual LED lighting inside.
When it lights up at night, only the outer 2 lens have LED units in there to light up and no inners, just like my old F87.
I know it's silly but that bothered me.

Again, a no brainer to opt for the lasers for me.

You'll notice a difference once the "Interactive" portion gets activated....

Is that something that will happen to existing cars?

Adaptive headlights with cornering lights are standard so I believe you really only get brighter high beams and different looking running lights.

Just to highlight how much variance there is in opinion...I can't stand HUD. I turned it off on day 1 along with the awful gesture control. I turned the HUD back on the other day at a light in case I had a change of heart, and ended up turning it back off before the light went green.

HUD is nothing special. GM has had it on some shitbox cars since the 90s. I still look at gauges out of habit so HUD is just an annoying redundancy that may or may not even be visible depending on your sunglasses.

Power tailgate is great, though. Very useful for when you're unloading shit from the trunk and don't have a free hand to shut it.

I also have shadowline laser lights, and that's another easy pass. Get them if you really like the way they look, but in terms of light output, there is no meaningful difference between them and standard headlights I have on other recent BMWs. Will they illuminate better when compared side-by-side in a pitch black field? Probably. But from the driver's seat in an urban area at night, they're all the same.

HUD is only annoying to me if you can't position it down low enough on the windshield. My wife loves HUD, has always opted for it on her last 5 vehicles or so (saying BMW HUD was the best), but she is annoyed that she can't position the HUD low enough on her current MB. In it's lowest position, it's just a few inches below LoS....which would annoy me as well.

And it helps keep finger prints/scratches off the trunk as well....

lol so you tried HUD, unmoving, for like 10 seconds?

i love HUD mostly because i drive a manual so the RPM meter is invaluable to me. otherwise being able to scroll through your music, phone, etc is also huge.

Great article, hopefully BMW enables the feature OTA vice requiring customers to bring their vehicle in to unlock for a fee.

Thanks! Yeah I've seen a few places where you can pay a fee and they will code it remotely. My understanding from the article is that they are now approved for use in the US so hopefully BMW will do it for free. Probably a longshot. If they don't I might pay that fee to get it done. I was in chat with one of the websites the other day and they said OTA software updates wouldn't reset it and it doesn't void the warranty. I'm not too sure about the voiding the warranty thing so for now I think I will wait and see if BMW does the right thing.

I cannot imagine BMW releasing this function to current owners without charging a fee. If they make it available at all, they'll likely charge either a one-time fee or an annual subscription for the "upgrade." As for the warranty, well, the laser headlight fixtures were created to perform this function. By coding it, you're only asking the headlights to "act like we live in Europe." Certainly a dealer could refuse a warranty claim for this or even for a kid on a bicycle being too close to your car. Personally, I'd only be worried about this if I was the first person to try it.

I just think the laser lights look so good. It was an option for me, that was a no brainer for the aesthetics (other than that weird yellow sticker, which is only noticeable up close).

I also do have the "shadowline" lights.

I view the HUD as a safety feature....at least on the Autobahn when I don't want take my eyes off of the road.
