My 2023 M3 build sheet for instance states "Decoding for no-dazzle high-beam assistance", and I've read that BMW may use OTA to activate in the future....

Whatever they do to offer an upgrade, don't expect it to be free.

BMW is quickly getting to be like porsche and nickel and diming you for every little thing, even when you think you've already paid for it.

Most of what they offer is for aesthetic value; halo DRLs and blue detailing in the headlamps. Its what most people seem to value. They are immense when in operation but the standard high beam wont leave you struggling on a country road.

Ive got Laserlights on mine and yes it ocassionally makes me gawp at how good they are but they get so little use.

Just depends on your budget and how much weight you place on having ultimate lighting on your G8x.

It is difficult to find accurate data on these vehicles as the M3 is a little different than the standard 3xx series. However I would argue that the overall light output is more uniform with the laser lights according to the insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

According to this rating the overall lighting score on the standard LED headlights was poor. While the laser lights received a good rating which is the best rating they offer.

So I think there actually is a quantifiable difference between the two headlight options and not just purely aesthetics.

I optioned them in my M4 just because I thought they should provide better visibility and the DRLs looked better both during the day and night. Also they give the car a better and more aggressive road presence.
Being just a week since I got the car, last night was my first night drive. The low beams are white, bright and evenly distributed, way better than the Adaptive Xenon that are on our F15; the "wow" moment was when they automatically switched to high beams…seemed like it turned daytime on the road in front of me, they are remarkably great! The coverage field is like 180 degree! Just awesome.
So if you are planning to drive at night some, for a thousand bucks, laser lights are definitely a no brainer.
