bm3 flash help

Hi everyone. I just received my dme back from femto and tried to flash for the first time today. Tried the csl map since I haven’t installed my downpipes yet. The write got to 100% but then I started getting malfunctions on the dash. Tried to reflash my stock map, but now it won’t even write. Just keeps failing. I’m getting this on the screen now. I’ve tried to reflash with my laptop and my iPhone. Same message for both. Please help if anyone has ran into this.

Did you try Force Flash?

If that doesn’t help you have to email Dzeno at PTF support…

Did you have Femto install the customrom and make sure bm3 was paired to your car before you sent it in? ( just trying to troubleshoot).

Make sure you have the car on a battery charger when flashing. After it finished it should have told you to shut everything off, wait 30 seconds, then turn the car back on. Usually once it comes back up the errors will be gone.

Reflashing back to stock relocks the dme. Or atleast it previously did on g8x. Your best best is to wait on support from ptf. They will likely remote in or at the very least guide you through how to resolve this.

I always triple tap the start button to make sure it's in diagnostic mode so it doesn't turn off before the flash finishes.

Hi guys, sorry about the late reply. I just wanted to get everything resolved before I post. So basically what happened was, I purchased bm3 license and registered my car to it about two months ago. During the time I was waiting to do the femto unlock I received an ota update. Basically when bm3 registers your car it takes a snap shot of the “ID” of your dme. When the ota update happened the “ID” changed. So when femto received the dme, they unlocked it with the current “ID” from the ota update I had. When my dme came back and I downloaded a map, it was building the stage 2 map based on what was on record from BM3, which was the old “ID”. So when I flashed it there was a mismatch, which caused the dme to brick. My solution was to have the dme relocked and flashed to stock. And then I had to send it back off to Femto.

I received my dme back yesterday and protuning freaks made sure everything matches before I flashed. So everything is great now.

Big thanks to Serge and the guys at femto. They were awesome to work with. Serge followed up with every step and even contacted Femto regarding the situation. Femto themselves were able to do the second lock quickly and send it back quickly as well. Kudos to both companies for awesome customer service!!

That's wild... Thank you for the update. I have a feeling you aren't he only one this is going to happen to. Good to know there's a resolution, even if it is a pain in the butt... couldn't imagine the initial headache.

Yeah, I’m not the only one. I know of one other person this has happened to. I just wanted to put it on the forums to help who ever sees this.

I registered my BM3 license a while ago and just had the ECU sent out. A little nervous now lol.

So I guess that means OTA updates really will screw the whole platform up? that sucks.

U can turn off ota updates. I just didn’t know that it would effect the tune and unlock if I did the update before sending it off for the unlock.

right, knew that. What I mean is, sucks you can't do updates anymore once you have a tune. We all know with ID8 and all the other tech this car runs on, they get bugs.

Sorry you had to go through all that man

Contact FEMTO and see if there's anything they can do prior to them flashing on it. Maybe you can check on the BMW app? Not sure if it'll come up on the idrive with no DME.

The only way to know is to plug into your obd port and open up bm3. Once you do that, you click on your vin in blue. The next screen will show your “registered vehicle software details” on top, and “current software ID Details” on the bottom. 4 lines of ID that must match. Then before you flash you click on the map your about to flash and there should be 3 lines of ID that should match ur first 3 lines of the previous 4.

That’s super good to know, thank you. ECU gets back Tuesday so I’ll check this.
I registered BM3 to my car as soon as they announced multimap and said it had to be registered to vin before sending to Femto… but then I did the break-in service and I think service did the software update.
