I got mine brand new x drive comp M4 from a dealer in NY. M3 May be harder to come by.

Interesting note about M3 vs M4, I asked my dealer if I changed to M3 would I improve my odds, he said they are equal on rhat front. I want M4 so will stick with it in that case

Wait so - You’re going for custom order M4, and hoping to have it before this summer being 6th in line? Man, I’m seriously rooting for you but it’s a slowww process even after it starts the build. I did a custom M440i (also from Germany) before the M4, and it was around 4 months from allocation to delivery to east coast. Honestly hope you get it!
Also agreed from what I’ve heard M3 would be a lot harder than 4 at the current rate

I appreciate your feedback and estimatws. I figure if I keep frequent touchpoints with the dealer salesman I can keep the wait down

I'll second the point about needing a smaller deposit if there is an existing relationship with a dealer.

I got on the waiting list for a M4 last autumn at BMW Boston and will be doing a PCD next month. About 7 months.

I was ready to pull the trigger on the car a couple months earlier, but I told them I don't want to take delivery during the winter months. They were able to time my build perfectly.

I am not sure what you mean about needing a smaller deposit. My deposit is with BMW Boston and is for $1000, I find that to be a fair deposit, it is refundable

My family has dealt with the same CA for years, and we've ordered (non-M) cars in the past where no deposit was needed, hence my earlier statement.

My deposit was 2500 when I got on the waiting list, fully refundable. Seemed fair to me at the time given the demand.

They originally said it would be another 2500 when the car goes into production since it was an individual order, but that part got waived off when my build got to that point.

Thanks for the insight, will keep that in mind. I would be put off if they asked again for $1000 in my case

The only difference between your chosen spec and mine, sans iDrive8, is I have Full Merino in Black and I have the Carbon Exterior package. There are arguments for and against the carbon exterior but with a colored interior, I would definitely go with the full Merino. It give the interior a special something with the colored accents.

Can't wait to see it around.

Appreciate you. I want to get the carbon ext but I want to keep it 90k.

I want the extended Merino but same deal. Awd and auto cruise are must for me in this traffic

Will keep you posted. If dealer does me favors I may add one of other options

I heard from 2 dealers that M4s were more readily available - but I wanted an M3!

Not sure which I thought to be more rare, but I was surprised they said equally likely for new car orders. Must be shared parts other than frame/doors. Use market may be different

Lets do some math, if my dealer says I get an allocation example on may 1, what am I looking at for when I take delivery? Is it like 4-6 weeks after allocation?

Just for an example. I got my allocation 1/6/23. The car was built and left the assembly line 3/1/23 and is currently on a boat and should be at port roughly 3/31/23. I was extremely lucky to only be waiting on a boat for 1 week. The boat ride depending on destination port is anywhere from 2-3weeks for east coast. For me it has taken 3 weeks on a boat to Brunswick GA. Doing PCD.

Similar timeline for my car:

I was at status 111 (Order Accepted) in late November, status 112 (Scheduled for Production) in late December. Production was around last week of Jan/ first week of February. I was asked for my desired PCD dates mid February. Shipping took about 3 weeks for mine as well.

There is no way to gauge how long it will be. Even a rough estimate might be off. My production number was assigned May 27th 2022. I picked up my car Sept 2, 2022. It depends on a ton of things. Worst case, 6 months, best case 1-2 months.
