Has anyone put winter tires on 824M 18/19s yet?
I'm planning on pirelli sottozeros 275/40/18 front and 275/35/19 rear. Has anyone done this successfully yet, or had any issues switching from the OEM tire specs?

I did this for my RWD 6MT G80, and it worked out well. 275/40/18 in front, 275/35/19 in back. No major issues this past winter after logging -1000 miles, including a trip up to some modest local mountains with light snow.
The 275 sottozeros in back had a little less grip than the OEM 285s when accelerating, so I had to be careful with the throttle in the wet. Besides that, they performed very well. The sottozeros were more comfortable than the OEM contis, but also felt less precise. Not sure how to describe it… a little squishy. Just a little. Overall I was very happy with the set up and plan to do the same thing next winter. |

At some point, sure I can, but not sure when I'll get a chance… Last winter I could not find any manufacturers offering 275//40/18 and 285/35/19 in the same winter tire, and I did not want all seasons, and I did not want to mix tire types. Maybe you will find more options. But 275/35/19 is the OEM winter tire spec for this car… on all 4 tires. And the 275/40/18s in the front have a very similar diameter to this spec: estimated difference is less than 0.1 mm (0.3%), though other factors like the wheel widths may affect this to some degree. So this set up has the OEM summer spec in the front and the OEM winter spec in the back, and is effectively a square set up for winter, as they intended with the winter wheel/tire option. I hope Europol doesn't go after you for that. |

My dealer in Uk says winters on style 829M are 275/35R19 100V michelin pilot alpin 5 all round. Not the best winter tyre but I can cope. Regards David |

For winter, you could use the same spec as the summer tires, but winter tire options are limited and it can be difficult to find a staggered set up with winter tires that perfectly match the OEM summer specs in two different sizes. That is why I went the route described above. There are more options available for all-seasons. The recommended winter option from BMW is their winter wheel and tire set which is 19" on all four wheels: 829M, with different width rims for the front and back, and the same 275/35/19 tires on all 4 rims. |

A beginner question; what if police stops you and you've upgraded to 19/20; where can they check what are all possible homologated dimensions for your car? I'm pretty sure on EU versions we have all possible (homologated) tires listed on the sticker. Photo anyone? |

Maybe colleague from the UK can help us with the door sticker that specifies the tire dimensions and required pressure. =)
