Hello folks. Having just taken the plunge and ordered a Tanzanite G80, I'm being offered the option (for £300) of adding those 50th Anniversary emblems. I'm having trouble envisioning what they'd look like on a colour as dark as TBII, so would welcome everyone's thoughts. Also, what do we think of the roundel design itself? I can't quite decide whether the purposefully retro structure of colours looks cool, eye-catching, or overworked. And do we think these will add to the distinctiveness of 2022 cars, or will these badges eventually be available on the aftermarket for retrofit and thereby diminish the individuality of 'anniversary Ms'?

Apologies if all this has been extensively debated elsewhere on the forum already, but most conversations I've seen surround the badging's availability rather than appearance per se.

Examples:

I got the 50th anniversary badging too at no extra charge. It was free (US build). Not sure why they would charge you for them since all cars being built after 01 March have the option to get these. I know you can opt out and have the regular badging instead.

I'm also having a hard time envisioning whether or not the 50th anniversary would look good on TB. Personally I think it looks pretty good and I really like the design. I think I'd have to see it in person before deciding on it. But I definitely think that there will eventually be aftermarket 50th anniversary badges.

You can always retrofit those badges with regular ones if it doesnt go well with your color. Also one will be able to order these badges through dealership, so its not going to hold any special value.

That's what I fear (re the retrofitting detracting from any exclusivity with the anniversary ones). Also, the more I look at it, the more I find it really quite white, which is going to make it look like a big white spot on the bonnet against a background like Tanzanite. It may look terrific with lighter blues and maybe IOMG or Brooklyn Grey. But something about it isn't working for me right now. (I know the website visualiser on the configurator isn't exactly representative; but it's realistic enough to put me off the roundels in combination with TB!)

Sorry for the stupid question since I’ve never owned a BMW before, but is that Java green? I reallllly like the color in those photos, and since I’m going to be an MY23 model I may consider switching from TR to that.

I don't mind the appearance or design - it is the M colors, it's the original design, so fine to slap it on. My G80 order is for Melbourne Red, so it will go fine.

Would not pay extra for it though - when my build got pushed from February to March it was added automatically, and gratis.

I too feel the regular badges might suit TBII better. Also not sure if i would pay extra for those badges.

50th anniversary is going to have some special colors. They are suppose to be available for order by end of this month, but we have not heard any official updates so far. Here are the threads tracking those updates.

I agree with others here that the anniversary emblems might not look best on darker colors. The white is much more obvious, and might stand out in a bad way.

I have a Tanzanite G80 on order - just hit 112 for week 8 build. So I am the last week that won't have the option of the anniversary badges. At first this bothered me, but if I ever miss them I can order aftermarket. I do like the idea though, and think they will look great with lighter and brighter colors. Imagine Fire Orange!

Eh... the standard badge has white as well. I can see the argument about it being more "busy", but mostly I think it's just a matter of getting used to it. (Like we have for other, much larger design changes.)

I think it's more the prominent white around the edges that will contrast with the darker exterior. But perhaps you're right - nobody has seen them on a car yet.

Exactly. It's the added white circles outside and in addition to the usual white/blue portions in the centre quadrants--that's what makes the roundels look really bright in comparison to the standard badge, the black surrounding circle of which allows it to blend with darker paints better. It's just that I only started to notice this, or rather to entertain its implications, hence the reason for my OP.

I've heard March builds going forward will automatically include the anniversary style. I've also heard it's an available option. Does anyone have information about how it works? (Automatically or an Option).

In the UK, it's a priced option, not automatically included. But we have a range of different configurations for what comes as 'standard equipment' to folks Stateside.

Hard to tell, but this is Java Green, the M8 in the thread about the middle:

https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1894578

I like it, and Signal Green. IOMG doesn't do it for me.

On M cars, the anniversary badges are standard. The standard emblems are an option. Haven't seen these pop up on the X vehicles yet.

On M performance cars, it's the opposite.

I've got the 50th anniversary badge on the build for my M3 Comp. I didn't ask for it, but I'm getting it. I think it's going to look killer on my all-black M3 Comp. It's going to make the car look very special.

I just placed an order for an SPY G80 with black wheels and I opted for the regular badges. I don't think the anniversary badges would go well with my colors, and they look a little busy to me. Still thinking about it though since I have time to change my mind. I may change my color as well if something cool becomes available as part of the 50th program before my order is locked.
