I will never understand how the Alcantara (a pure industrial and synthetic product) can be preferred to the beautiful leather...in addition its a dust magnet and very difficult to clean...

Aftermarket CF doesn't look the same. I've had both OEM and aftermarket CF parts and there's a considerable difference, OEM looks much better. It doesn't bother most of the folks though.

Haven't heard about an M Performance shift knob for the G8x. I know you can just frankenstein together the factory boot with a different knob, but is the stick really that much of an afterthought in these cars? There were a couple different M Perf shifter options for the F8x, and the shift boot area in general seemed to be designed with a manual in mind. It actually made the auto/DCT knob look a bit dinky and out of place.

Well, there only two, the stubby little M Performance shift knob with Alcantara boot for non-M cars (aka with white stitching) and then years later, they released the bigger silver one for M cars that also lights up. So there's a chance G8x 6MT buyers will get a new shifter down the line.

But seeing as they barely make any manual non-M BMWs, I wouldn't have high hopes.

I kind of like the armrest. I'd go alcantara/cloth seats over leather any day. Put cloth where there will be a lot of wear and alcantara for the trim. Just like the old ZHP.

There's a similar carbon seat back for the F87. Not really my thing, plus almost nobody will see it in a 2 door.

I'm pretty sure the armrest will be Silverstone, not black (don't have the care to formally confirm).

I get all of that, but I'm referring to your dust magnet comment. It's no different than leather to me where dust is concerned. Then again, I don't drive with my windows down, so that is probably part of it. Alcantara's soft touch is preferable to the feel of leather in many cases.
