Do you regret buying your G80/G82?

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I've put in an order for a 2022 G80 M3 xDrive. I was initially insanely excited after seeing it in person and driving it for myself. It looks aggressive, stands out, has a beautiful interior as well as insane performance, nice sound, and a nice direct steering feel.

Since ordering it however, I can't help but notice the never ending stream of negative comments on the way it looks. I still have an opportunity to pull out, and so I was wondering for those that have followed through with their purchase, do you regret it? Are you faced with a constant stream of negative comments among enthusiasts?

Ignore. I don't care about negative comments from people I neither know nor care about.

Who cares what others think? At the end of the day, it's your money and your opinion that counts.

Enjoy your new car and stay excited.

I've ordered mine in OCT and the excitement hasn't left. I don't care if I'm the only person on the planet that buys it. I love this machine and no one's lame opinion is going to ruin my experience for me.

Tbh the negative comments don’t bother me because I personally think the car looks great. If the comments bother you, maybe you’re on the fence and are relying on what other people think to push you over, in which case you should not buy the car. But it really is a lot of car for your money.

Reminds me of the quote from Winston Churchill:

When you're 20 you care what everyone thinks, when you're 40 you stop caring what everyone thinks, when you're 60 you realize no one was ever thinking about you in the first place.

So why would you care what others think or say if you really like the vehicle.

Also by posting this question in a G80 forum, the answers are going to be pretty straightforward.

It's not necessarily that I care, it's that I wonder if it takes the shine off of it/gets old when a lot of people you show it to within the enthusiast community have a negative comment to make. Basically, I was trying to understand if it's a keyboard warrior comment and isn't something that comes up day to day, or if it's more pervasive than that.

And you're right re the audience, and certainly there's going to be a bias here, but who better to tell me it's a non issue than people who have put their money where their mouth is (which I suspect a lot of the people with negative comments don't have - money that is - I'm sure they have a mouth).

It doesn't seem like you actually want an M3. It sounds like you want whichever car others are talking about at that moment.

If you love it then other opinions shouldn't matter.

Ad hominem - not necessary. I paid a lot of money for it which I wouldn't have done if I didn't want it. I think there's a difference between "not caring" what others think, and an incessant negative talking point that wears you down. It's the latter part I'm trying to get a feel for.

What about your 30s? I kid - but thank you, it's a nice quote and good perspective.

If a vehicle delivers what i want, none of outside comments is going to take the enjoyment out of it. I had a couple of MK7 GTIs in the past and they were not the most expensive vehicles. But every drive brought a smile on my face and i will miss owning them, even after upgrading to vehicles which might cost three of four times than a GTI.

Most people who throw bricks are the ones who cant afford the vehicle. Some also include owners of previous generation M3s and thats pretty common whenever a new platform comes in. That same crowd is going to praise this platform once the next gen hybrid comes it.

Jokes aside though , coming from an F82 I initially hated the front. ( still do)
I swore I'd never get into the new models and wait for something else.
I lasted a whole year , and now seeing the carbon bucket seats + x drive it's hard to to ignore it for much longer and so I pulled the trigger.
I'm definitely not a fan of the G82 , the rear end for me is way too Infiniti but that's my opinion.

I recall a long time ago when everyone hated the E92 and now it's " the last true M" lol just goes to show you can't ever listen to anyone.

So with that being said , if you do a lot of car meet ups , expect people who can't afford the car to begin with to approach you and voice their opinions to you on the look of the front lol.

I don't care about the negative comments..

You know what does wear on me is the wait, I'm not 100% I'm going to make it to be honest. If an interesting one pops up I would probably grab it.

Don't give a flying fuck about what others think about the car I'm driving.

However, I will say that so far anyone that has said something about the car in person has actually loved it and thought it looked great. Of course you are less likely to get negative comments face to face than you are via someone over the internet…but still, I can tell that the in person comments have been genuine as it is unsolicited feedback.

Sounds like you're looking for a crowd pleaser, something to show off and get everyones nod of approval on. You'll never find that. If you drove the car and liked what is to offer, then what does it matter if someone else doesnt like the styling? If you like it, and the rest of the car, what is there to be worried about?

My car is currently in production...no regrets at all, just an occasional second guessing of my color choice but that's just my own personal indecisiveness about these sort of things.

The color choice stress is real. I went for Brooklyn Grey - you?

In the flesh the G80/82 is a huge crowd pleaser. I think you will be thoroughly surprised by the response. Regardless, it’s all about how you feel when you look out your window and see your car sitting in your driveway. It’s all about how you feel when your accelerating down the highway. I would stick to your gut feeling, the feeling that initially helped you make the decision to order the most popular/talked about M3 ever. Congrats and I look forward to the pics of its arrival!
