Figured I'd try to foster some ideas, here is my hack for wireless charing in my MY22 G80. Digital Key maintained as you'll see from the video.

Apple mag safe charger with some 3m double sided tape!

Looks great! I'll bet it works better than the actual BMW wireless charger. I have MY21 and a 19 G05 X5… wireless charging pads in both are a gimmick that overheats the phone and makes airplay fail in 30 mins to 1 hr.

It seems to work pretty well. I'll report back on a longer drive to see how it charges (or doesn't).

Can confidently say this actually charges the phone. Just took a 20 minute drive, phone was at 86%, and now at 92% when back home. Was connected via carplay and running waze with pandora streaming. And the phone is only moderately warm.

Exactly this 👆🏻.

I have a g20 and g05 both with wireless charging and it doesn't charge well and, if running music/nav while charging, phone overheats and shuts off. Worthless IMO. Wasn't bothered at all that it disappeared for the g80 order. My Tacoma wireless pad is 100% better.

Looks like wireless charging is now back! Not sure which production weeks this takes effect from, but I assume week 39 onwards

I'm not seeing the point of this. You using and can see the cable so why not just plug the phone in? Charges a whole lot faster and doesn't heat up the phone like wireless does.

I hate the hassle of plugging the phone in and would never do it unless maybe it was a long drive. My Jeep has wired only AA and I never use it for anything under 1.5ish hours because I hate the hassle of plugging the phone in. Each person has a different level of tolerance for doing this.

This is my solution...

How did you get the wire to run under there?

The carbon trim just pops right up. Pulled from the cupholder area straight up.

Also back. Based on the UK configurator, previously these options were greyed out due to "restrictions". Now they are no longer: https://configure.bmw.co.uk/en_GB/configure/G80/M3CP/

Or you could just go OEM. Its not like you paid for it in the 2022. They dropped the price, and excluded it.

Do you have a write-up on how to install or is it just as easy as getting a trim removal tool, popping the dummy out, attaching the cable to the new one and snapping it back in?

Good idea! How come you didn't plug it into the USB spot right near the tray? Does it not have enough power?

It's super easy. Lots of YouTube videos show how to install.
