From a speaker-level outputs perspective, does that mean the front door midranges and A-pillar tweeters are separate channels? If so, that’s great for time alignment and wouldn’t that also mean you wouldn’t be using any passive crossovers between those four channels?
Oh, and does using the required harness manage to get rid of ASD in the process too? I think that was a feature of the bavsound amp kit, which would be a nice plus. Thanks for all your help! Last edited by ashmostro; 08-23-2021 at 06:46 AM.. |

From what I understand, ASD is in no longer a separate module. That's actually good since you can just code it out with Bimmercode (I have....very happy with the results) and no longer means that the ASD module is messing with the sound and/or boosting bass.

Do you know if the front door mids and tweeters are on separate channels in the factory hk system, or are they passively split and therefore must share the same time delay setting?

I'm figuring this out at the moment.
I just picked up my match10 today along with the harness. so far from what I can tell, the front tweeter and mid are on the same channel. this is fairly universal for all the other channels in the car that have tweeter/midbass combo. (front/rear/surround/center). This isn't ideal, but still playing around, I'm having trouble getting the unit setup properly, I'm going to call MSC tomorrow for advice. |

Appreciate it!
That said, if it’s true that the mids and tweets up front are on a single channel, is the only need for the MATCH 10 vs the 7DSP the number of inputs? The outputs seem technically equivalent (power wise) if you aren’t rewiring the front doors to the trunk. Right? |

MSRP is around $1300 for the DSP/Amp and another $200 for the harness.
Mine came in yesterday and I'm working out some small hiccups. I'd recommending hold off on buying until we get a confirmed G80 working on this setup first! I'll update as I work with MSC / Audiotech on getting this functional. |

Do you know if other BMW vehicles in the same class (eg x3m) have the same speaker configuration? Obviously tuning will be different but I'd expect bmw to generalize the HK system across its platforms for economies of scale.

Apparently there are only 3 of these in the wild, 2 of them are on this forum, the third is a shop that was about to install it.
I've been working closely with the MSC folks today, we have a solution to try, waiting on some parts to be shipped out. |

It sounds like either they sent the wrong harness, or there was a harness manufacturing issue. The harness I have is different from what the distributer's tech has and the connector for the HK amp isn't keyed properly so the connector doesn't fit in properly. This has happened previously with a change in BMW's supply chain and was fixed with trimming the connector to fit. Ultimately they're waiting on the folks in Germany to sort things out and they'll ship me an updated part or have me make a modification to mine. I'm not willing to risk shorting things out so I'm relying on them to confirm. Also the Amp/DSP also seems to need an MEC (Match Extension Card), something that's typically an addon item or a completely different match 10 SKU to order. The MEC adds the input channel for the center. They're sending out a replacement harness and a MEC to test fairly soon. |

The need for the MEC for VCP is specified in the 10DSP manual: |

VCP can be used without a dedicated input for center. It uses summing from other inputs to generate a virtual center channel. This is part of the Helix/Match DSP software. The problem is much of the center channel information from the RAM would be missing (phone calls, chimes, etc), anything that processes through the center only would be missing.

In the 10DSP, a center input is used for the VCP processing in a 1 to 1 configuration -all 9ch inputs, all 9ch outputs- so any center upmixing is also processed by the VCP -this is useful if playing Dolby Digital encoded movies, not required for mono sounds (phone calls, gongs). Nevertheless, a center input is not required to create a center speaker, the 10DSP will create a center from the front L/R inputs. |
