Not the best looking wheels but pricing seems fair at least.

I ordered (4) 275/35-19 Michelin Pilot Alpin 5s this morning from Tire Rack, who only had nine in that size in the entire country. Maybe Michelin is about to launch a successor to the Alpin 5, or maybe they haven’t ramped up production yet for the winter season ahead. If you’re looking for that exact tire; pull the trigger now, take your chances and wait, or begin shopping elsewhere.

Question about wheel swap for winter

Awaiting 2022 M3, supposedly will be at the dealership in 5 (!) days.
Will be getting a winter tire setup for the Seattle area.
Debating between swapping wheels in my driveway (as I've done in the past) vs just buying tires and having them swapped at a shop.

Having taken all my high school autoshop 900 years ago, I'm very comfortable swapping wheels, but have zero clue how to reorient the care to any electric tire pressure monitoring system that I assume exists... How difficult is that to do myself?

(I'm sure a 12 year old could figure it out in 10 seconds on my iPhone, but I'm old...)

If I'm going to have to take the car to the shop for the electronic bit, I'll just be lazy and have them do everything...

if you buy a winter set then consider purchasing tire pressure monitoring sensors. They communicate directly with the car.

^^^ What he said, it's a simple reset in idrive when you swap setups from summer to winter to summer etc.

Thanks for the heads up on that. From this thread it seems the Michelin Alpin 5 seems to be quieter with better mileage. Seems like it may be worth it as the price is similar.

Has anyone tried the Wintrac Pro on a BMW? It seems to have gotten very good reviews for the price.

I'd like to consider using the OEM 829M winter wheels, but to make it a non-staggered setup to allow for rotation, would anyone use 4 "fronts" (9 x 19) all around? Or would it better to use 4 of the rears (9.5 x 19)?

Don't see too many great aftermarket choices...

I have Vredestein Wintrac Pro on my f80 as my winter set. No complaints.

Sweet, I ordered those over the weekend for my g80. I've heard good things about them for the really good price point.

What sizes did you order? Are you going to run them on the stock wheels?

Square setup, 275/35/19 with some 19" wheels from Tirerack. They aren't special, but will serve the purpose.

When do y'all put on and take off the winters. North Jersey for reference.

When your temps start to get in the low 40s that is a good time. I usually check the long term weather forecast and book my appointment a month in advance.

South Jersey here and I pretty much play it by ear but like another poster said once the temps get to 40 degrees consistently I put them on... usually around black Friday I'll make the switch to winters and around mid-to-late March I'll swap back on the summers.

If TireRack doesn't get better wheels than those MSWs posted soon I'm just going to buy some 826Ms or something and use those as my winter setup. Will also be sticking to 19's all around, but probably go 10.5" for the rear, still 275/35-R19 for all four tires.

TPM question

Recently picked up a BG M4 and loving it so far - incredible. Looking at winter tires and will go with something from Tire Rack very soon. Question on TPM - if I get a wheel/tire combo can I also have Tire Rack install a compatible TPM or will I need to go to the dealer and have it done there. If there are compatible TPMs which is recommended? Trying to eliminate complications of the TPM not communicating with the car.

I have a quote from my dealership on the BMW package (black 829s, 9 front 9.5 rear, wrapped in Pilot Alpin). Both front and rears are the same tire, 275 width.

Honestly not all that much more than getting MSWs with Sotto Zeros from Tirerack. I'll very likely get this package.

I’m thinking about getting the OEM package, but I am wondering if the fronts or rears could be used all around to have a square setup. Is this a bad idea?!

I live at a ski area. My road is covered in snow for the entire winter. Nokian make by far the best winter tires. It is not even close.
