Break In Service

Anyone made it through the break in period? After driving endless loops around the neighborhood, I finally am taking mine in for the service on Wednesday. I'm told it takes a couple of hours. Excited to not have to be so tentative on the acceleration (and on the interstate).

2100 miles on mine already, and a track day coming up next week can’t wait.

Only 800 miles on mine so far. I work from home and my daughter's daycare is 2 miles down the road. Those 800 miles were very hard work!

Took about 3 months to hit 1200 miles on my wife's X3M but I am aiming to get those last 400 miles down this week/upcoming weekend.

In case you don’t know, you can schedule the break in service as early as 900 miles.

Had mine done last week. Wow!
Car just loves to run to redline and is a highway monster. 55 is way to easy reach.
Also getting some mild burble on deceleration that wasn’t there prior to service. Exhaust breaking in or do they in fact load a different tune?

No tune, that's an "urban myth". You probably just didn't notice it before, but if it has actually changed then chalk it up to things loosening up. Break In Service is a change of engine and differential oil, and resetting of the "service schedule". Baby does like to trot though doesn't she?

I didn’t think anything other than fluid changes but I’ve seen two videos mention changes to tuning. Exhaust does sounds different, I’m sure it’s placebo or it’s breaking in.
Yah this thing pulls and pulls. It’s crazy how quickly mid triple digits show up. Not really looking to tune but I can see removing the speed limiter. IDK

Is a software tweaking. Fluid changes do nothing to change the character of an engine.

No, that color is available in the Netherlands. Some countries get "custom" colors that others can't get.

I just scheduled my break in for late June. Dealer told me they need at least half or full day and they need to "order parts". A little surprised. Anyone know what they actually do?

Change engine and diff fluids. I had mine done in an hour while I waited.

That sounds right. The "ordering part" comment threw me off unless he mean ordering an oil filter or something. Thank you.

Had my break-in done today here in Toronto a little late at 2450KM. Here is what they did:

Check your M1 and M2 settings. Some users have complained they got reset (specifically D3 changed to S3) after the service. Car is great in D3 though. It doesn't want to shift until red line.

Had my break in service done at 1181miles. Car doesn't seem any faster/louder than before, possibly a tiny bit less responsive.. Dealer did mention they would "unlock" it though when we took it in. It has acquired a small ticking/pecking sound at idle coming from passenger side of motor that I'm fairly sure wasn't there before.

They unlocked it by taking it for a wild ride around the block. There is nothing to unlock in break-in service.

Just got mine back from break in service at 1146 miles. They also mentioned an unlock of launch control to go along with fluid changes and a service counter reset. Says next service 8k miles now.

Cr0we12 Yeah this motor is definitely noisy, lots of rod knock and direct injector sounds. I mentioned to svc guy and he said it's normal.
