Here's my observation in the last two decades of owning M3's..
With every new generation, almost nobody wanted red. As the car aged, almost everybody wanted red. People were willing to pay a hefty premium for them, too. e30 M3 - brilliant & henna - both extremely desirable e36 M3 - hellrot - highly desirable e46 M3 - imola - relatively desirable e92 M3 - melbourne - extremely desirable f80 M3 - sakhir orange (although not red) and all other individual reds - extremely desirable I have no doubt that TR will be no different. At first, they all seem "too flashy" and "loud", but as these cars age, the desirability factor increases and so do those colors that stand out. If F80 was any indicator, I personally know of several people in my area who wanted a used one in Yas Marina Blue or Sakhir Orange only. Similarly, they were willing to pay way over market value for it. |

I'm curious to see TR/Fiona or YMB or fjord. I love wild and out there combos.

Mine is on a boat as we speak I'm so excited, TR with the carbon package, M-performance splitter, side skirts and high wing. I took a risk and did a red interior as well with Carbon buckets, hope it's not too much red. It will go great with my Hellrot E36. PFA

I've seen Toronto Red on the X3M/X4M before and it looked nice but wasn't enough to make me seriously consider it on my G80; but seeing it on this G82 under early morning sun on my performance center delivery day made me wonder if I should've ordered it! It looked phenomenal!
A few hours later I saw the car outside in cloudy conditions and the color looked nice but not that special anymore!

I found these pictures in the UK BMW website of the TR & FR. This is the also the combo I went with. I knew I wanted FR and TR but wasnt sure if it would be too much together, these pictures helped me make up my mind. Cant wait to see it in person.

So, I recently got to see a TR M3 comp for the first time IRL at a local dealer.
I have to say, out of all the colours I have seen IRL on the G80, I believe TR might be one the best colours for the car. I have so far seen the G80 in Black Metallic, IOMG, Brooklyn Gray and Skyscraper grey. Tanzanite 2 I have seen on several other BMWs so I can imagine how that would look. Anyway, back to the TR M3 I went to see. In the showroom, with a mix of direct and indirect lights, it looked fantastic, with a subtle orange hue, as many has described but as many pictures also fails to show. In many pictures it looks a lot more "deep red" or "ferrari red". My only concern for my own build, is how it looks in other lighting conditions than in the showroom lighting. Does it get more orange and lighter in diet sunlight and a more deep red in the shade and low light situations? Could any one with more experience of TR chime in? I have been looking at pictures (also in this thread) and videos like crazy but TR looks so different it's hard to tell what is actually an accurate representation of the colour. I added a picture I took in showroom lighting that should have be pretty accurate colour wise, as a reference. TR is on the top of my list at the moment but I want to make sure I won't regret my choice. Thank you! Last edited by F1zbo; 10-03-2021 at 03:37 PM.. Reason: Some clarification and added photo. |
