Are you freaking kidding me?! So we go to a track where like minded enthusiast and a common set of rules are in place to keep everyone safe but you have a need to reach for the stereo volume?! You reached for the volume during critical steering inputs multiple times. You shouldn't be reaching for it at all! No race track etiquette between either of the cars from what I could see. Your priorities on the track are clearly ass backwards. Great cars piloted by dumb ass drivers. |

lol, OP is qualified to reach for the volume knob. Fun vid, thanks for sharing. Shows again what the G8X can do in capable hands. Putnam is a great little technical circuit that can expose chassis flaws. Left there "needing" coilovers for my E90 years ago. G8x performing well there is another good sign.

Exactly, the 8 speed auto & AWD surely would've given the V10 R8 an even better run.

I have doubts about this, but a good showing for the M4 (6MT no less!).
Congrats!

I've owned a gen 1 r8, gen 2 r8, and highly modded 997 gt3. I have tracked all of them and the r8 is a great road car but poor track car. Regardless, I'm not surprised to see they are similiar on track to a newer m3.

Just my opinion.
Regarding operating various car controls while on track. I won’t specifically comment on the OP who as others have said is qualified to twirl a knob or two, but just in general with amateurs like me and a bunch of other forum members. One of the abilities one hopes to develop during HPDE is to start paying attention to many things in and out of the cockpit, to adjust on the fly anything that needs it, and hopefully not have a death grip on the steering wheel. Develop it bit by bit over time, staying safe of course but do develop it. By all means check and tighten your belts and harnesses during the session. Disable that collision mitigation setting (duh adc, you really forgot to do it in the pit lane?). Recall the TPMS screen when your passenger accidentally touches the idrive controller. Change the engine mode to experiment from lap to lap, or switch between MDM and off to find out if it is helping or hurting you. Adjust the airflow if needed, bring the visor up or down, etc. Thumbs-up the car you passed if you can. All while driving smoothly and not missing a beat. The ability to multitask while on track might save your bacon. And I’ll mitigate this by saying you need to distinguish what is safe to do and what isn’t. Say if your phone mount detaches from the windshield and falls in your footwell, I suggest slowing to a safer speed and exiting to pits to retrieve it, for safety reasons. You probably can’t adjust this one on the fly.

That R8 was loose, you were stressing them out for sure.
Curious given youre a qualified track driver...What do you make of the grip with the 4s, and how would you gauge the tire noise. Were you exceeding the limit, or are they just super chatty cause of the small shoulder blocks. Also, what was your hot tire pressure?
