is there any handling difference M3C/M4C ?

anything different in the bits that affect handling between the 2 Competition spec PreLCI automatics?

dampers, springs, bracing, front/rear downforce or anything i might have left out?

I don't know that it's a definitive "No". Just did the 2-day advanced M School with the M3C and the M4C and I can tell you that there are definitely different handling characteristics between them.

I believe that the M3Cs were pre-LCI (they had ID7) and the M4Cs were post-LCI (they had ID8), neither was xDrive, but I don't think that it mattered that they were pre/post with respect to handling (if that's what you mean by "No").

What difference did you feel between the 2 cars?

I'm really new at this, so I might not have the best perspective or ability to explain what I felt, so this is the best explanation I can give. I think the most notable difference is that I could get the rear of the M3 to step out a bit easier than the M4 (and thus set off DSC more often - you run the big tracks with DSC on). Generally speaking, the M4C felt slightly more balanced in more situations than the M3 and I was therefore faster around the track. This could also be because my morning lead/follow sessions were in the M3 and the afternoon lead/follow sessions were in the M4 and I was able to apply the fundamentals more consistently with more seat time (even if it was only a little bit).

At one point even a couple of the instructors mentioned that they prefer driving the M4s to the M3s on the track. But, they said that it might have something to do with them being newer, but also kind of shrugged that off while saying it.

Yes I would put it exactly this way. Both are fantastic and you can't really go wrong with any of them.

Those differences are almost certainly attributable to tires (i.e. different brands, different state of wear, different temperature or all of the above).

I drove both on track w/ BMW M School. M3C/M4C w/ xDrive.

The M3's driving position felt more "forward" to me, like you're sitting closer to the front of the car (which I preferred), and I felt the rear of the car better. The M4C is a little less lively in the turns; I felt I could get on the power earlier.

I bought the M3 since I wanted a sedan, but there's no way to go wrong with either car from a driver's perspective. Both are awesome.
