I’m still waiting for mine to arrive (in 2024 build week 2), but this will be my first BMW/M.

I grew up driving manual transmissions mostly Infiniti/Nissan. I’ve always respected BMW performance/racing, but it was always just out of price range and honestly I was never in love with the classic look and interior.

But I’m a convert with the new redesign, and I guess one of the strange ones who loves the new grill and how it sets the M3/M4 apart from other BMWs.

When the G80/G82 came out and I saw them in frozen grey/black I fell in love. Being a car lover, the fact that you can customize so much of it and still get it with a manual transmission was the icing on the cake!

I can’t wait until it arrives! I’m already anticipating loving it and upgrading my daily driver next.

I've been an Audi guy for a while I considered sticking with the brand before getting the G80, nothing really made me feel like I desired one. RS6/7 is far too big/heavy, and Audi typically skews more towards comfort even with the RS cars. Which is not a bad thing, but wanted change.

The G80 is the other way which I absolutely love. It can do comfort reasonably but goes the other way. It has more of an edge and rewards driving it hard. Couldn't be happier with this platform.

I answered yes as it's our first M car that is MY daily driver. However, we have had an E60 M5 that was my husbands daily. I didn't drive that one much.

Started off my BMW journey in 2011 with a 335is, and then my M ownership in 2015 with my first (base, DCT) F80 M3. Lease return in late 2019 for a 2020 loaded F82 M4 competition model, and now, after that lease return, purchase of both my 2013 e92 M3 secondhand (I've *always* wanted this car since my 335is) and my G80 M3 comp xDrive.

Hoping to keep the e92 a LONG time, and the G80 at least until the new (hopefully hybrid and not fully-electric) M3 is released.

My E93 has 155,000 miles and counting, and mine is indeed a keeper. Never selling it. Soooo many smiles/mile in that car, which I drive year-round straight through the winter....

....on summer tires.

Absolutely love to hear that! I'm approaching 80k miles on my e92 (bought the car, one previous owner, with around 75k miles on it) and immediately did rod bearings, valve covers, spark plugs, and changed all the fluids. DINAN exhaust + stage 1 tune and the car feels and sounds incredible.

I see you're in Maryland - I had the 335is I mentioned (and actually my first F80 for a few months) in Baltimore at Hopkins! The 335is came from CA with run flat summer tires, and let's just say I tried to go out in the snow once and never again... the F80 was only there my last spring semester, but I did bring that car to law school in South Bend Indiana, and while I never went out in ridiculous snow storms, on "all season" tires the car performed admirably in cold temps and light snow dustings!

Oh, that's interesting. My first BMW was a 2015 M4 that I had for 10 months and like all my cars, I drove it all the time. I think I got it in 2016. Tanzanite Blue. I live in the Annapolis area, and work in Baltimore...and Hopkins was and still is one of our customers.

I sold the M4, and then got the 2013 E93 in 2017, Silverstone. And I have driven my M3 a lot too, in all 4 seasons. It's been to Florida, Dallas, St. Louis, Boston and the Tail of the Dragon (multiple times)...and everywhere in between. Epic trips every time, and no problems. Driven hard, and then driven gently on the highway, with nary an issue. Only left me stranded once when a coilpack blew in rural PA, had to get towed 80 miles to a BMW dealer. But the repair was only $365.

My E93 has the full Akrapovic exhaust with a tune, and currently lowered on BC coilovers, which I can adjust from soft to firm (from riding like a Caddy to a race car). I love the adjustability.

If you're in Southern Cal, I envy you, because the roads and vistas are amazing. Some of my most memorable drives ever (in rental cars) were in the canyons, mountains and coastlines of Cali.

Yes, back in SoCal now, and definitely love the drives up Angeles Crest, Mulholland, and the malibu canyons!

adjustable coilovers sounds like a good move, and definitely something i would think to add next!

My M3 was not only my first M but also first BMW. Never even drove an M car prior to buying mine (in a region where these are not common and not usually on the lot to test drive) but from the other available offerings the numbers and performance were what sold me.

Remember me....

I bought one of the first F82 M4's back in late 2014. Immediately started the mods...Bigger turbos, tune, DP, Meth, etc. with in 6 months blew the engine. At the time no wrecked or used engines, too new, $30K for a new one. Here I am back to the M4, 2024 M4 Competition Edition XDrive. Night and day difference. Between the two M's I've had a 991.1 Turbo S, two different R8's, currently have the family SQ8 APR tuned. The G82 is something special...time will tell.

Given the data it is clear that the design of the G80 was not a deterrent but rather a major factor in what got people interested in the M3 (and even BMW).

For me personally, I was almost immediately impressed by the design, when seeing it in person. It really makes the previous models look aged (they are still beautiful of course).

After all the initial hate/backlash, we'll look back at this as one of the very best design updates. This is in fact what constitutes an amazing design, nervous at first, then you just get it.

I just wish they didn't put a wannabe M3 grill on the i4. Kind of cheapens the exclusivity of it. No offense to i4 owners, just would prefer to not associate what are very different vehicles.

I agree. New BMW designs are often met with negativity at first only to turn positive some years later when people get used to it and get the idea behind it. I see it as a sign of design innovation that takes time to understand.

Great thread going back to original 2021 post. Agree with the last two comments, the G8X design grows on you and then you really appreciate it. My first BMW and first M, going with a 2024 base M3, gotta have the stick. Had a '17 GT350 and the Tremec 6 speed with flat plane crank V8 is hard to beat but wanted something classier, more refined, with world class fit & finish and the G80 was the obvious choice for me.
