Does this make sense or is there some bias?
I really don't think it's bias as he's pretty complementary of the M4 which has the disadvantage of being based on a passenger car while the GT4 is riding on a dedicated sports car chassis. I would wager you could drop any of us in these two cars on the track and the GT4 would probably come off as more fun to most of us based on it being smaller, lighter, and feeling closer to a race car. The M4 manages to be a little quicker around the track while being far more livable as a daily driver so for most of us would be the car to own if you could only own one car. Another thing of note is that GT4 is going to feel a lot slower on the street than the M4 as it needs to be pushed to high RPM for motivation as in the words of Car & Driver "it's a little dull at low revs".

Different track but a manual GT4 is neck and neck with a C8 Corvette so it's pretty clear the G8x can hang with the big dogs which is something you couldn't really say about the F8x cars.

https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews...18-cayman-gt4/
I can put my bags and kids in a m3 and go to the airport and know that the car would beat 99% of the cars on the road( depending how many Teslas on the road!)
You can not do that with porche.
Exactly it's unfair already to compare a daily car like the M3/M4 to a dedicated sport car like the GT4. Just the fact it can keep up with the GT4 make the M3 an incredible achievement.
Yep I agree

M3/m4 since its second generation has always been a street car you can take to the track.

The GT4 is a track car you can take to the street.

Different philosophies, both great.

The M3/4 has always been a marvellous Jack of all trades. I've always said affectionately of all my M3/4 that they aren't the best at anything, but they are the second best at everything .
Hahaha very self convincing, nice.

I'm short- the Porsche is the high maintenance woman that drives you crazy, the M is the one you marry
I agree! I'm that guy…..single, no pets, no kids, no credit card debt, etc., and I have a second car. The Carrera S will be my fun/weekend toy.

….but the GT4 is significantly lighter, so even with lower power the weight advantage still favors the GT4. The G8X just simply handles very, very well for its size and it has power to compliment.

The reviewer is an idiot in my opinion.

Why do these British car reviewers always keep comparing the Porsche GT4 to BMW M cars. There is no comparison. Porsche is the penultimate car to own and drive, specifically on the track. GT4 in the hands of an experienced driver will always beat any M car. The mere fact a higher HP G80 is being compared to a mid-level Porsche is absurd as well. Let's compare the top M car vs the top Porsche GT. The M cars will get spanked each and every time. And this guy is lame. I've seen his reviews before. Wish they would all stop trying to be like a Jeremy Clarkson on these reviews.

Porsche is good at only one or two things at max but BMW M cars are good any many things. For the price, can't beat the M cars.

I would love to have a GT4, but you're 100% right that it would be a toy, not a daily. I have 2 kids and a dog - my M3 has 500hp, 3 pedals, is immense fun to drive, or track, or tune, and I'm still able to do the school run, Costco run, or take the family away in it. At any price point, there are a truly vanishingly number of cars than can do all that (particularly the 3 pedal bit). Just an epic car on so many levels.

Wait, so now you want to compare an $80K M4 to a Panamera Turbo or something that will be almost $225K with options? I'm lost dude.

I think this particular head to head was done because the cars are in a similar price range and it's an interesting proposition overall.

Kudos to BMW for continuing to make super fun cars in spite of growing opposition to anything with an internal combustion engine.

Insane. The G8X M3/M4 seats 4-5, has no problem with being a daily driver, family hauler, etc...Beats the GT4 (no question a more pure sports car) on a track - any track. Reminds me of when I bought my E39 M5 so many years ago. Cheers to BMW.

P.S. I'll take either the GT4 or M3/4 with a MT (despite the power reduction for the BMW), thank you. And while I am now in my early 50s (how did that happen??), I have not changed my opinion on that since age 20.

I'd like to see an alternative version of this test in which, once the clock starts, the driver has to load up with shopping and white goods and some "click & collect" parcels before setting off

I agree, but I’d change it to, “Porsche is *great* at only one or two things ...” They’re absolutely worth the money, even (and especially) with that singular focus on driving excellence.

Yes it makes perfect sense. .2 of a second is not much unless you're racing. Unless you have driven a Porsche and BMW it is hard to understand the difference and why he picked it.

I certainly would pick it too.

It's nice to look at, it's quick and rewarding and not known for teenagers living with their parents owning an M3 and doing donuts in a parking lot.

Porsche is King.

They could use infotainment implementation advice from BMW though. Oh, and paint advice from BMW too.

Right. They’ve come closer than ever with the 992; there’s still room for improvement.

I was quite impressed by the Bose audio. It’s the best stereo I’ve experienced in a sports car. Far better than the Harman Kardon setup in my G82. I don’t know how the Burmester can realistically improve on it enough to justify the $4k price tag.

Further, I enjoyed the glass sunroof, PDK, 18-way sofas, and adaptive cruise control. The 992 C2S/C4S is a near-perfect daily driver sports car, assuming you generally travel without people or cargo. I do agree that an X3 or 330i (or Corolla ) on the side will make for a great combo.

Haha! My Corolla gets miles put on her like a cheap hooker.

I, too, liked the BOSE when I heard it next to the base stereo, so I promptly added it to my build. The 992 is, by far, the Porsche for the modern age. I don't feel like I'm going so backwards now that I've left the BMW camp.
