I have to ask...if it was the dealer south of the city, they offered me the same PPF option (outsourced) and it was priced like 20% higher than the 2 best local shops for less coverage. I declined but it seemed like they just started offering that in August or so.

The dealer matched the price of the local shop so I got a pretty fair deal…at first ha.

in the Pcar world, the dealer would get it sorted, and would cover getting the ppf redone, too.
it definitely was an issue with the paint booth on that one. QC must have called in sick.

My friend ordered a Boxster Spyder. Goes to pick it up at PECLA, and there's plainly visible paint defects in the base color. Basically paint splatters in a different color than the paint. No one told him until after they pulled off the cloth when he picked it up.

It got through Porsche Germany and stateside inspections. They're not producing the car anymore so he's in a weird back and forth with them on making it right. If he gets the car repainted, even via Porsche, it can't be a CPO car if he ever choses to sell it.

I think you’re in the wrong thread, because the photos in this thread show nothing of the sort.

I have the same issue on TB M4 I think if more people look in that same spot on the inside of the grill they will see a lighter layer of paint. It doesn’t bother me much because I can’t see it and I know it’s there. Must be the way the machines paint the bumbers, hard to get the inside.

This is definitely not normal. My previous dravit didn't have any issues and my current car doesn't have this issue, along with other people commenting, I definitely think this should something BMW should address for each incident.

If it is indeed a paint issue and the dealer is going to fix it I would suggest you take it where you want to take it and have them reimburse you and get the estimate of repairs fixed. Or make sure you know where it is going and do your own research on that repair facility. Knowing dealers they will go with the cheapest option to fix it. Happened to me on my X5. Got scratched during service and they took it to the dealerships paint and body. Had to go back three times and still wasn't right. I was selling the car anyway but would never let a dealer touch my paint ever again after that.

Secondly you should call BMW NA once fixed. Tell them about the issue and how long the car was in the shop getting fixed. They will put in a case issue for it and essentially decide how to compensate you. My X5 was at the dealer for 2 months waiting for a part (warranty thing). They issued me a check for 1 of my car payments. Hope that helps.

Wanted to give you all an update on this issue. My dealer has a collision center as well and got the car in last Monday and had the car back to me by Friday. They will call the PPF installer in a month as the paint needs to cure for 30 days before putting the wrap back on. Overall, I am happy with the work they did and it looks great now.

True. The compound angles are a bitch. I am stripping off my PPF. Fuck PPF.

Something like XPEL is especially hard to get right on the bumper angles. It doesn't play well. Try a better quality film like STEK, UPPF, SunTek (don't have much experience with Kavaca but I doubt it's worse than XPEL).

I have SunTek but as always it was probably this shops 1st run in with this G8x platform. Someone who has stretched the front end of this European Alps shaped front bumper cap would be better versed a few runs in!

Sum-o-bitch looks like the Matterhorn

That is disgusting, the PPF people should not have installed the PPF unless the paint finish was correct. The dealer should not have accepted the vehicle from the PPF people like that. I hope they did not pay him for the PPF as it will need to be removed for the paint to be reapplied. To me they are both at fault. I wouldn't worry about the dealer as he has not looked after you at this stage. Good luck with it all. At least the paitwork BMW will cover under warranty which the dealer should have done before you picked it up.
