Do you really think they sat around in a meeting and said "We should really try to use up the rest of the F chassis codes before moving to G" and someone responded "Well I guess that means we're going to have to product a 2 series active tourer M car"

The chassis codes are dictated by what they produce, not the other way around.

Yes. In fact, it will be the first implementation of 3/4-series version of CLAR on the market, as opposed to the old Z3/Z4s that were the derivatives of models already on sale. Mechanically, G22 will be its closest relative.

Yeah. More likely, it went like this:

BMW HQ: "Let's use G for the next generation platform vehicles".
Some M nerd: "D̶u̶d̶e̶s̶,̶ ̶w̶t̶f̶Meine Herren, you're leaving a whole bunch of F numbers unused!"
BMW HQ: "You M people are so smart, take them for yourselves."

What’s the difference between the F40/F41 1er 3/5 door and the F52 1er?

The latter is the sedan which is currently only in China but which is rumored to be coming to other Asian nations and some European nations as well. To avoid clutter, I didn’t add the sedan/coupe descriptors to any model. In a manner of speaking, you can think of those as the Series defaults (sedan for odds, coupe for evens).

No, unfortunately. As you can see from the model list, the 2GC is a UKL vehicle, and BMW will not be doing UKL M proper vehicles for the foreseeable future (at least through the “G” generation, we can assume). The top model will presumably be an M235i xDrive M Performance offering.

It will be interesting to see what the G80 will look like and perform like, compared to F80.

No new i designations make me think BMW isn't serious about their upcoming 12 electrics.

As with the M5 and all other "G" generation M products, there will be a G80 M3 Competition model, too. And it should be available very near launch.

The OP contains everything currently known about the current and future G generation (plus current and future UKL) BMW products.

While it is possible others may yet await, the absence of news about any 6 Series vehicles other than the GT at this point suggests it is unlikely we'll see replacements for the current 6 Series range going by the 6 Series name for the remainder of the G generation. The 8 Series is by-and-large taking over that role. Perhaps in a future generation they will add a new 6 Series coupe, convertible, and Gran Coupe, or perhaps not.

Not necessarily as Li was an option before China ever seen a BMW.
Li is an option for any market (where offered and homologated), not just China.
Is that Chinese preffer more this model for its more ostentatious character.

“L” stand s for Long wheelbase.
“i” stand for injection (gasoline engines)

There are also Ld models - Long weheel base “d”iesel.
