That's me!

Well, since the E92 at least.

It all depends on where you live.

Dunno. If you want RWD and/or manual transmission it's pretty hard to consider the M5. Also, if you want a coupe/convertible body style it's not easy to accept a sedan. But most of all, if you have an xy budget, it may be difficult to exceed it by 50%.
At 33yo I'm considering the M4 and I would never consider an M5, maybe my dad would do it. With that money I'd go straight to the 911.
Only my opinion.

Nice.

The M5 has been a different design ethos since its inception. From the beginning there has been no exterior difference from a standard 5 series. This is to allow it to fly under the radar so that an executive or sales professional can drive an incredibly capable car without drawing a lot of attention.

The M3 started as a homologation special without any regard for daily driving and had fender flares and improved aerodynamics specifically because they could not change any bodywork for the race series. It also used a 4 cylinder motor based on their F1 block because it was stiffer than the 6 cylinder and could handle a 10K rpm redline in race trim. Again they did this because they had to use the stock engine block in the race cars. The requirement was that they had to sell 5,000 road cars to qualify, which BTW was incredibly difficult and they sat for 12 to 18 months on dealer lots.

All that being said, there are a lot of people that aspire to own an M5, they are just not the age that jump up and down about it. Also the current M5 is much closer to the original intention compared to the M3 which has gone from a race car on the street to a fast comfortable street car.
That was my own opinion and how I view it as. Don't be a brainwashed leftist that gets easily offended that your opinion isn't coming out of my mouth.

So you are offended that someone "with too much money" would want an M5, yet you are throwing around the term Leftist.

Good job trying to make political views that you don't even know if a person holds an insult. You maturity level is really shining with this one.

So if professionals deem it the best driving M3 ever, then what?!?!

As for steering, I don't find any year M3 particularly better or worse than the preceding/incoming model(s). I recently hopped back into an E9X and......I'll pass. I do have a nostalgic attachment to the E46 ZCP M3 though.
It's hard to separate the nostalgia and be objective. I will forever love the E46 M3 but in 2021? Not sure.

I totally agree. I'm nostalgic, but make no mistake....no way would I ever go back to any older ///M after living with two F82's.

Pls share why you bought the two F82s, in particular the second F82.

Totally agree. I've owned and loved one of the most epic Bmw M ever (1M), but I've never regretted selling it for something newer.

The first one was a '15 YMB I ordered at launch. The second was a '17 Individual Nardo Gray I ordered in 2016. I've also owned three E9X M3's and two E46 M3's (...among other BMW's, etc.). ALL were MT's except for my two X5's.

The exhaust doesn't sound bad on the flyby, not massively loud, but then, been a bit spoiled with the pre-OPF MPE on the F82, so guess it's always going to struggle to compete.... (but then, that is a bit on the ridiculous side for loudness)

Look forward to seeing how some of exhaust options sound (including the MPE).

Presumably, you are with VIERsr, newer is better "... after living with two F82s."

It depends.
After the 1M, the OG M2 didn't catch my eye, it was nice but still lacked the "M-factor" in the engine, just like my 1M and it wasn't worth replacing it. So I decided to move on, dreaming of the M3 engine in the M2 chassis.
Looks like BMW heard my prayers

No! I truly think the F82 is a better, more enjoyable car overall. It is fun to me in a way the previous cars weren't. Conversely I found my '05 ZCP E46 M3 to be a better, more enjoyable car despite the E9X being faster, more technologically advanced, etc.
