First day with the g80 on track

I’m pretty surprised at the g80. I’m a pretty decent driver, advanced run groups. This g80C stock, on Pirellis, was only 2 sec/lap slower than my f87. MSR Houston, clockwise 1:48.4.
My f87 was on Nitrons, front bar, end links, corner balanced, carbahn stage 2 piggyback, and most surprising on new Nankang CR-S V2 at 295/30/19.

Yes, the g80 rolled a lot more, but it was pretty balanced. The front end grip was amazing. Unfortunately, my biggest issue was putting down the power. I found myself up-shifting to 4th and 5th pretty quickly coming out of corners to get the power down more gradually.

I got home and put on the front H&R ss springs. I decided to do this until the Nitron electrons are ready to test. I need to put on the rears tomorrow.

I think the g80 just makes so much more power that I make up so much time on the straightaways.

Anyway, just wanted to share my experience today.

The more sporty engine modes do mess with the throttle mapping making it more difficult to control. Not quite as bad as the "Power" button on the E9x M3 but still an issue. Consider the engine modes you're using and experiment a bit.

P0 tires do tend to roll quite a bit. A more track oriented tire with stiffer sidewalls would make the car more stable through a corner and a bit easier to put power down out of a corner.

I run in advanced group.
This track day group is setup by one of the members at MSRH. Basically open track, pass wherever and whenever it’s safe to do so. Wide variety of cars, but typically max of 10-15 on track at a time.

Same experience here. I ran my stock G82 in the advance group most of the times. A lot of people are asking and kind of wonder why I used a stock car for tracking. I always tell them, it is not the car give you fast lap time, it is the driver lol. BTW, I drove a six speeds and that is RWD.
