I just need to see a pic that's all. Happy to wait if by some miracle the toned down production front end looks more attractive. If not my money goes elsewhere...

Where? Porsche? Many people claim they'll leave just as they did in the past, but not many actually left.

That because the actual cost of owning a Porsche isn't for the average joe.

You don't just drop off your car for service, you drop off your wallet with the car.

I agree! That's why I chuckle when people claim that they'll leave the brand for the P-Car. The cost of ownership isn't for the faint of heart.

Could you please confirm your awareness of the fact that this thread is about BMW M cars and not Toyota Camrys?

I am jumping to a 2020 911 S because bmw haven't made an M3 available. I don't like this because I care about m3's practability. In any case I don't think cost of ownership is that high for a Porsche - considering they hold their values somewhat okay. Also I am purchasing a 5 year maintenance plan for $5k.

true, out of warranty/service plan M cars aren't cheap either, BUT a lot of of people on here get new ones every 3-4 years or lease them, and when you lease new there is no maintenance cost (in US at least), while a comparable Porsche not only cost more but has no free maintenance and if you are leasing it you will probably feel pressured to have them service it so there are no issues at turn in time.

Careful, no talking about Camry's in this thread.

Anyone who is not sure of the big grille of the concept car can pretty much look elsewhere. Remember how the green M8 GC concept was out of world amazing for a 4 door, and how the production car compared to that?

But will there be enough plastic available to mold the giant grills?

They definitely should look elsewhere if they cannot get on board with the new design, are hoping that the LCI will not have large grilles, etc. BMW has shown where their ambitions are headed. Believe them!

From what we know here in Europe, the new M3 will surely share the same ugly front grill with the 4er and M4.

Probably......the 3er LCI will share something similar too.

I really want to change my M140i with the new M3...but.....the grill is a huge question mark. Here in Europe feedbacks about the 4er concept grill are really, really bad...so I hope that maybe somebody in BMW will take care of the custmer bad reaction, and maybe, will reduce the size of it.

But, I repeat, for what we know.....the grill is at 90% what we'll have into the final production car.

the 4 looks great, I think the M3 will look great. I think, if you feel the M3 and M4 have grills that are too big. A jump to the Porsche is acceptable. If you are leaning the other way. JDM may be just for you. NOS, VTEC and Mugen with a spoon engine shipped overnight from Japan.

It kind of resembles the shape of the new RS7 front end.

I've owned three Porsches: 2007 Cayman S, 2009 Cayman S, and 2014 911. They are incredible cars not doubt.

I went from the 911 to a 2018 M2 to a 2018 M3. At the dealership (which is the only place I'd take mine), oil changes on the 911 were approximatel $600 ($460 with coupon if timing was right). Tune-ups (plugs) were $2,700. In the year I owned the 911, they did $8,400 in warranty work (PCM, multiple PCM reprogrammings becasue it wouldn't hold settings, steering wheel, and both taillights). For me at least, those are some pretty steep numbers. Worth the experience - yes. For everyone - no.

As for holding their value: Porsches are all about mileage - the more you drive them, the more they lose. Once they settle out around 5-6 years, they smooth out hold their values reasonably well. However, buy it earlier than that and drive it 10K+ per year, and you will experience some steep depreciation. Just one man's experience.

I'm super excited about the G80 M3. I don't think that the production car will be as extreme as the concept (one member posted on another threaad a really nice comparison of recent BMW concept vs. production cars which showed how they get toned-down - sometimes significantly). In a way I love evolution (Porsche/BMW), but I also feel that you occassionally have to stretch beyound your comfort zone to get to the next level. I wasn't a fan of the Bangle era (especially after the E46 which I love), but in reality it changed car design for BMW and many other companies. Personally, I have found that it takes me a while to understand and appreciate drastic design changes. However, once I "get it", I tend to really like it. Now, not all designs fall into that category, but the good ones do. My two cents.

Do all Porsche hold value? I thought only certain 911 does, and once you go beyond like 50k miles they don't hold either
