Drove the G80 today, now what to do.....regarding F80....

So I drove the G80 M3 Competition today. I currently have a bit of a Unicorn F80 M3. 2018 Comp package, DCT with 4600 miles in Miami Blue (1 of 6 in the US). I love Miami Blue and have always gravitated towards the brighter blue colors. As for the G80, the car felt lighter and more nimble especially in the front end compared to the F80. The interior was way more modern feeling and looking which I know is not surprising. I also found the carbon buckets to be plenty comfortable as a big guy. The looks have been growing on me, and I still think the F80 is a better looking car overall. More of a seamless design. The G80 still looks more aggressive, but a little choppy and boxy in some areas. G80 is also a bigger car aesthetically, but doesn't feel it when driving. The G80 ZF transmission also felt extremely smooth and shifted extremely fast. I also like how the G80 has the ability to put roof racks on the carbon roof if desired.

So now the conundrum. Should I order a G80 or keep the unicorn F80 which I am sure I will kick myself if I sell. For reference I have had 2 E36's and now 2 F80's over the years.

Some pics, sorry my car is filthy and lighting is bad but you get the idea...

Love Miami Blue! I tried ordering my G80 in Miami Blue but it was denied.
I now have an incoming Mexico blue G80.

If you decide on a G80, you could always go individual again. It's definitely a good time to sell! Beautiful car. Post more photos of the Miami blue F80.

Good luck on your decision.

If price isn't an issue I can't see a good reason to chose an f80 over a g80

Sell the F80 now while prices on used cars are insane. You will make much more of a profit now than selling it in one or two years. And selling a unicorn Miami blue F80 with that low mileage will fetch top dollar in todays market.

Same boat as you, I have a somewhat rare-ish F80, my Lime Rock Grey M3 CS that I contemplated keeping forever. However, as much as I love the car, I actually want to experience as many cars as possible in my life. If you think about it, unless you are someone like Jay Leno or a Youtuber, you are only going to own a finite amount of cars. True, car prices are insane right now, but if I can sell the M3 CS for a little more than I would have without the chip shortage, then that will make up for the inflated new car prices.

This time I ordered an M4, my first coupe since High School (a LONG time ago). Like you, the look has grown on me, although I still think the F8X is pretty much aesthetically superior to the G8X, the G8X is still arresting and it's just newer.

I agree with this - it is one of the key reasons I'm trading in my 2019 F82 Comp (33k miles) now even though it isn't even 3 years old - they've offered me Ł40k trade-in value against a new G82 Comp xDrive, which seems too good to turn down

Here's a question for you: why so few miles on your current car?

I'm not being critical, but don't save it for the next guy. Enjoy it, drive it, use it! If it's nothing but a garage queen, then I can see where the appearance/looks/color would have more importance for you.

I should add to that, even this morning I had a guy at a stop light honk his horn at me, wave and smile with a thumbs-up on the M4. I get an awful lot of that, more than any other BMW that I've had and more than most of the Porsches that I've had. It really has great presence, despite the buck teeth look.

It's just amazing how the F8x generation still looks fresh and beautiful.
I agree it's a timeless design. I bet it'll still look good in 10 years.

TBH, I'm not quite sure if the G8x will age well as the F generation.
Time will tell, but I'm very happy with mine at the moment and that's all it matters.

You have a low mileage car. Why? How do you use your car?

The g80 interior is much nicer but you have to go full merino.

I prefer the analog gauges of the f80, I dont love the digital screen cluster.

The aftermarket for g80 is super thin right now.

My HK radio in my F80 sounded better than my g82.

My G82 gets a LOT of attention.

The F80 is great. I loved mine. It was such a fun car to drive. I still think its a good looking car and the design is timeless, but compared to a G80, they look dated.

The interior is a major step up in a G80, which you obviously know.

Not that my F80 was unique in any way (MW/black), DCT, with 437M wheels, and no mods, but that car got next to zero looks. My G80 (BG/fiona) with 826M black wheels, lowered with spacers, gets tons of looks. People taking pictures, etc.

Obviously the G80 platform is new and my car stands out much more than my old one, but I think its a much more striking looking car.

I say make the jump. Your car has minimal miles on it, which leads me to believe you don't drive it all that much for whatever reason...get something you'll drive!

I'm in the same boat as others in this thread. COVID used car prices are insane and it's making it super tempting to sell my F80 and get into a G80 (if I can find one).

The dealer by me got a few in this week so I'm going to look at one later today or tomorrow I think. It's not exactly what I want (and has more options than what I'd build) but they're obviously incredibly difficult to find currently, and it sounds like getting an allocation to build one is even more difficult (and takes a while to build too), so I might need to suck it up and buy one that's close to what I want all things considered.

I guess I'll see what I think after I test drive one, but I'm pretty sure I already know the answer

Lower your price to something reasonable on your F80 and move on to an individual G80. Doubt you'll ever regret it.

Had the car for 8 months. Bought it with 2200 miles or so. So I have been driving it a little but it's just a weekend car.

I was in a similar spot. Not an individual car but I had a 18 comp 6 speed with carbon structure interior with 3600 miles on it. I kept stopping by my local dealer to check out G80 as they were first arriving. My choices were to buy out my lease or sell it. With used car prices where they are at I decided to sell it. I recouped most of the lease on it and I ordered a Dravit grey G80 6 speed with carbon interior, exterior, and carbon buckets. The G80 has far surpassed all expectations. I dont regret it one bit. The G80 gets way more attention. The interior is leaps and bounds over the F80. Why not order a Individual G80.

Life is short... you enjoyed it for a bit so let someone else. Especially since the used car market is what it is right now, you'll probably come out ahead. Bad part is the wait, unless someone happens to have the one that will work for you.

I know this is going to be controversial, but after getting used to the G8X, I feel like the F8x is looking dated (to me anyway).

I'd say order the G80 in an individual color.

Totally agree. The F80 vs G80 looks comparison is so confusing to me. I look at the G80 and think it's too much, the front grill looks weird, etc. then I look at the F80 after the G80 and think the F80 looks very boring and dated. Then I look back at the G80 and come to the conclusion that it's the better looking car. It's almost like the double-slit experiment:

I had an Imola F80 that I absolutely loved, and I sold it to a close friend when I picked up my F92 Comp. He called me last weekend to say that he went in for service, and there was a G82 in the showroom, and after seeing it in person, his mind had changed and he really liked it. It's bold, but it works, and for all the people that think an LCI will bring a redesigned front end, lol, not happening.
